The AirTAC GFR400-15 AirTAC Filter Regulator NPT1/2 5 um Manual Drain is a genuine G-series filter regulator: water separation, 5 µm particulate filtration and balanced-type pressure regulation combined in a single body. It has PT1/2" ports, a manual drain and regulates 0.05 - 0.9 MPa (7 - 130 psi). It does not lubricate — add a GL lubricator, or order the GFC two-unit set, if downstream equipment needs oil.
The AirTAC GFR400-15 is a size-400 filter regulator: it removes water and particulate from compressed air and regulates downstream pressure in a single body. This configuration is built for a 1/2 in NPT port, carries the fine 5 um filter element (code W) instead of the standard 40 um, and uses a manual drain, so an operator opens the drain at the bottom of the bowl to discharge collected condensate. It is the low-pressure type, is supplied without a mounting bracket, and has no reverse/check valve fitted. The fitted gauge is the external round type with a psi scale; the embedded square gauge is the standard alternative, with MPa, psi or bar scales available. Maximum working (inlet) pressure is 1.0 MPa (145 psi) and the operating temperature range is -5 to 70 C, non-freezing.
This is a genuine AirTAC part. The GFR family spans sizes 200, 300, 400 and 600 with matching port sizes, a choice of differential-pressure, automatic or manual drains, a 40 um standard or 5 um fine element, standard or low-pressure regulation, gauge and scale options, and G or NPT threads as order options. Flow is published as curves rather than a single rated figure, so we confirm the datasheet and sizing figures for your application on request.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC G-series air-preparation data. The regulating band is set by the drain type: automatic and differential-pressure drains regulate 0.15 - 0.9 MPa, a manual drain regulates 0.05 - 0.9 MPa. The low-pressure type adjusts over a lower band than standard; we confirm the exact figures from the factory datasheet. Air must not freeze in the unit. Flow curves, weight and outline dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.
| GFR400 | G-series filter regulator, 400 body — sets the port range. |
|---|---|
| 15 | Port size PT1/2". This body offers 10 = PT3/8", 15 = PT1/2". |
| M | Drain: Manual drain — this also sets the regulating band (0.05 - 0.9 MPa (7 - 130 psi)). |
| L | Low-pressure type. Blank is standard, L is the low-pressure type. |
| J | Supplied without bracket. |
| (blank) | Pressure gauge fitted (blank). |
| C | Gauge shape: Round. C is round, F is square. |
| 2 | Gauge scale: psi. 1 is MPa, 2 is psi, 3 is bar. |
| W | Filtering grade 5 µm. Only 40 µm (blank) and 5 µm (W) exist. |
| T | NPT thread. PT is the default; G is BSPP and T is NPT. |
| (blank) | No reverse-flow valve (the default). |
Field order is size, port, drain, type, bracket, gauge, shape, scale, grade, thread, reflux — a blank position takes the default. Example: GFR300-08 is a 300 body, PT1/4", differential drain, standard type, bracket included, gauge fitted, 40 µm, PT thread, no reflux valve.
A larger body carries a larger port and holds set pressure better as flow rises. AirTAC publishes flow only as curves, so size the body from your peak demand with headroom. The GFR600 uses an aluminium-alloy bowl; the 200, 300 and 400 bodies use PC.

On a carton-forming and sealing line, this unit filters and regulates the air feeding the clamp, push and fold cylinders, with the 5 um element protecting the directional valves from fine particulate and the manual drain bled at shift start.
On a CNC machining centre with pneumatic workholding, the low-pressure regulator type holds the reduced pressure the clamping circuit is set for, while the round psi gauge gives the operator a direct readout at the machine.
On looms and spinning frames with many small pneumatic jets and actuators, this filter regulator conditions the branch supply, the 5 um grade keeping fine orifices clear and the manual drain emptied during scheduled stops.
Size 400 with a 1/2 in port sits in the upper-middle of the GFR range; step up to size 600 or down to size 300 if your line's flow demand points that way - ask us to check the flow curve against your consumption before ordering. This unit has the 5 um element (W code); choose it when downstream valves, cylinders or instruments need finer filtration than the 40 um standard element provides. The manual drain suits installations where an operator is present to bleed the bowl; choose automatic or differential-pressure drain codes for unattended duty. The round gauge with psi scale is fitted here; the embedded square gauge is standard, and MPa or bar scales are available. Thread is NPT on this code; PT is the standard thread and G (BSPP) is also an order option. No bracket is included with this code (J). The low-pressure regulator type is selected for circuits that sit below the standard adjustment band; the exact regulation range for the low-pressure type is not published in our sheet, so confirm it with us. Flow is published as curves, not a single rating - we will confirm sizing against your application on request.
Quick checklist
The PC bowl must not be cleaned with solvents — wipe it with a dry cloth. Without the K option, air cannot flow back through the unit. A filter regulator adds no oil to the line.
AirTAC publishes flow for the GFR series as curves, not as a single rated number, so there is no one figure we can quote. Tell us your line pressure and air consumption and we will confirm the sizing from the datasheet on request.
The M code in GFR400-15MLJC2WT means the bowl drain is operated by hand: an operator opens it to discharge collected condensate. It suits attended installations on a regular maintenance round; for unattended duty, order the automatic (A) or differential-pressure (blank) drain code instead.
