AirTAC Pneumatics
The AirTAC SED series is a double-rod ISO 15552 air cylinder spanning 32-125 mm bores, delivering equal push and pull force for applications needing anti-rotation guidance or a secondary drive point.
inventory_2717 models availableThe AirTAC SED series is the double-rod (through-rod) version of the ISO 15552 SE cylinder. A single piston drives a rod out of both end covers while remaining double-acting. Because a rod occupies both sides of the piston, the effective annulus area is identical in both directions. This means push and pull force are equal, matching the SE pull-side figure. Force at 0.5 MPa spans from 345 N on the 32 mm bore up to 5734 N on the 125 mm bore.
The range covers 7 bores (32, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125 mm) with standard strokes up to 1500 mm on the larger sizes. It shares the SE barrel and ISO 15552 footprint. Standard features include adjustable air cushion at both ends for end-of-stroke deceleration and a -S magnet option for CMSE/DMSE sensors. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa with a proof pressure of 1.5 MPa. Standard temperature is -20 to +70 C, or 0-150 C with FKM/H seals.
A key design consideration is that the overall length is longer than an SE cylinder for the same stroke, because a rod protrudes from both ends. You must leave rear-rod clearance in your layout. The rear rod end can carry a sensor cam or drive a second mechanism, and the dual-rod design guides the load against rotation. Mounting options include a subset of the SE line: Basic, FA, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1 and TCM2.
Drives two conveyor lanes simultaneously using both rod ends. The equal push and pull force ensures consistent timing across both stations without requiring separate cylinders.
The double-rod design guides the load against rotation. Ideal for pushing precision tooling or workpieces where a single-rod cylinder would allow unwanted rotational play.
Uses the rear protruding rod to carry a sensor cam or trigger a secondary mechanism in a packaging line, saving space by combining drive and signaling in one unit.
Select the bore size based on your load and the equal force requirement. Force output at 0.5 MPa ranges from 345 N (bore 32) to 5734 N (bore 125). Choose the stroke length up to the 1000-1500 mm maximum depending on bore size. Confirm the port size (PT1/8 to PT1/2) and thread type (PT default or G). Pick the rod material (carbon steel, SUS420J2 for option A, or SUS304 for option B) and add the -S magnet if you need position sensing.
If your application requires the cylinder to hold position when pressure is lost, step out of the SED series to the BSED double-rod rod lock family, as the SED air cushion only decelerates and does not lock. If you need adjustable stroke rather than a through-rod, look at the SEJ series. Always confirm these 5 points before ordering: bore size, stroke, port and thread type, mounting style, and magnet option.
Quick checklist
The SED series spans 7 bores from 32 to 125 mm. Because it is a double-rod cylinder, push and pull force are equal. At 0.5 MPa, force ranges from 345 N on the 32 mm bore to 5734 N on the 125 mm bore. Maximum standard stroke varies by bore: 1000 mm for bore 32, 1200 mm for bores 40-50, and 1500 mm for bores 63-125.
The SED is a double-rod (through-rod) version of the SE. A rod protrudes from both end covers, making the overall length longer for the same stroke. This design equalizes the annulus area so push and pull force are identical. It also provides anti-rotation guidance and a rear rod end for mounting a sensor cam or driving a second mechanism.
No. The adjustable air cushion at both ends only decelerates the piston near the stroke end to reduce impact. It is not a lock, brake, or holding mechanism. A double-acting air cylinder does not hold position if air pressure is lost. If load holding is required, use a mechanical lock, rod brake, pilot check valve, or the AirTAC BSED rod lock cylinder.
The SED shares the SE barrel and ISO 15552 / VDMA 24562 mounting interface dimensions. Available mounting options are a subset of the SE line: Basic, FA, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1 and TCM2. FB, CA, CB and CR mounts are not available. Confirm exact dimensions from the datasheet for your specific bore size.
