The AirTAC Airtac 3V Solenoid Valves 3V208NCBG is a genuine 3-port 2-position (3/2) solenoid valve with 1/4 in ports. It either feeds its outlet or vents it to exhaust, which is what makes it the valve for single-acting cylinders, on/off air blow, clamping, vacuum switching and pilot duty.
The AirTAC 3V208NCBG is a normally closed 3/2-way solenoid valve in the 1/4" frame, supplied with parallel G (BSPP) ports and a DC24V coil wired through a DIN plug socket. Until the coil is energised the spring holds the poppet shut, so the outlet sees no air and stays vented - the safe default for clamps and single-acting cylinders that must release on power loss. Inside sits a coaxial shut-off poppet driven directly by the solenoid, with no pilot stage to clog, and the body carries an IP65 (DIN 40050) electrical rating. Because this family works from full vacuum up to pressure, the same valve can switch a negative-pressure circuit: the rating spans -102.2 kPa to 0.1 MPa (-1.45 to 14.2 psi), a capability the smaller 3V1 and the 3V2M manifold body do not offer. At the 1/4" port the flow coefficient is Cv 0.19 with an effective area of 3.2 mm2 - sorry, 3.4 mm2 - per port, and the DC coil draws 7.0 W. Medium is air filtered to 40 um or finer; lubrication is not required. A manual override is fitted for commissioning.

Figures follow the official AirTAC 3V2 catalogue. Confirm coil voltage and thread (PT / NPT / G) against the product label before wiring.
| 3V2 | Body — sets the flow, the coil power and whether vacuum is rated. |
|---|---|
| 1/4 in | Port size. M5, 06 = 1/8 in, 08 = 1/4 in, 10 = 3/8 in. |
| NC | Normally closed: no air at the outlet until the coil is energised. |
| DC24V | Coil voltage. A = AC220V, B = DC24V, C = AC110V, E = AC24V, F = DC12V. |
| — | Electrical entry: I = flying lead, otherwise a DIN plug. |
| G (BSPP parallel) | Port thread. PT ships from stock; G and NPT are available to order. |
A 3/2 valve has three ports — supply, outlet and exhaust — and two states. It either feeds the outlet or vents it to exhaust, and that is the whole job.
That makes it the right valve for a single-acting (spring-return) cylinder, on/off air blow, a clamp, switching a vacuum generator or suction cup, and piloting a larger valve.
It cannot run a double-acting cylinder. A double-acting cylinder needs air alternately on two sides, which takes a 5-port valve — the AirTAC 4V series.
Switches the vacuum line that holds thin acrylic or MDF sheets against a cutting table. Rated to -102.2 kPa, the NC valve lets the operator break hold-down instantly at the end of a cycle by cutting coil power.
Feeds a spring-return clamp cylinder on an automotive sub-assembly jig. Being normally closed, a control fault or power cut vents the clamp and lets the spring release the part, protecting the operator at the station.
Sends a DC24V pilot signal to actuate a bigger diaphragm process valve on a water-treatment dosing skid, where the low 7.0 W coil suits a compact PLC output card and the DIN plug keeps panel wiring tidy.
Check five points before ordering: port size and thread style (this code is 1/4" with parallel G/BSPP - the family defaults to PT tapered, with G and NPT as catalogue options to order); initial state (NC here, so no air flows until energised); coil voltage (DC24V, 7.0 W); electrical entry (DIN plug socket on this SKU, not a flying lead); and whether the duty includes vacuum, which this series handles down to -102.2 kPa. If a 1/8" port and lower coil draw would do, the 3V1 series on DC24V needs only 3.0 W against the 7.0 W here. Where many stations share a compact base, note that a 3V2M manifold drops Cv to about 0.1 because flow routes through the base - this individually-ported 3V208 at Cv 0.19 passes nearly twice that. When the job needs substantially more flow, step up to the 3V3 (Cv 0.62, also vacuum-rated); the 0.19-to-0.62 jump is the real gain, since 1/8" to 1/4" in the 3V2 line only moves Cv from 0.18 to 0.19. For a double-acting cylinder you need a 5-port valve - specify the AirTAC 4V series instead.
Confirm before you order
It is a direct-acting, single-solenoid, spring-return 3/2 valve in the 1/4" frame with G (BSPP parallel) ports. Per-port flow: effective area 3.4 mm2, Cv 0.19 (the 1/8" 3V206 gives 3.2 mm2 / Cv 0.18). Operating pressure 0-0.8 MPa (0-114 psi), vacuum rating -102.2 kPa to 0.1 MPa, media temperature -20 to 70 C. Coil power is 7.0 W on DC (AC coils are 7 VA); protection is IP65 (DIN 40050); air should be filtered to 40 um or finer and needs no lubrication.
NPT and G threads are catalogue options on the 3V2 family (PT tapered is the standard thread on this series), and the same body is available with a flying-lead entry instead of the DIN plug socket - just order the matching suffix. On drive capability: a 3/2 valve has supply, outlet and exhaust ports and either feeds or vents one line, so it suits single-acting (spring-return) cylinders, blow, clamping, vacuum switching and pilot duty. A double-acting cylinder needs a 5-port valve - use the AirTAC 4V series for that.
