The AirTAC Airtac 3V1 Solenoid Valve 3V1M5AI is a genuine 3-port 2-position (3/2) solenoid valve with M5 ports. It either feeds its outlet or vents it to exhaust, which is what makes it the valve for single-acting cylinders, on/off air blow, clamping, vacuum switching and pilot duty.
The 3V1M5AI controls one line at a time: a direct-acting 3/2 solenoid that either feeds its M5 outlet from supply or vents it to exhaust, so it suits single-acting cylinders, air blow nozzles, clamps and pilot duty. Spring return sends the spool back the instant power is cut, and the valve is supplied in a single fixed initial state - confirm it on the datasheet.
Wiring runs through a pre-wired flying lead rather than a DIN socket, which keeps cramped panels without plug-in access simple. Its AC220V coil draws 4.5 VA, the body is protected to IP65 (DIN 40050), and a manual override helps during installation and commissioning.

Figures follow the official AirTAC 3V1 catalogue. Confirm coil voltage and thread (PT / NPT / G) against the product label before wiring.
| 3V1 | Body — sets the flow, the coil power and whether vacuum is rated. |
|---|---|
| M5 | Port size. M5, 06 = 1/8 in, 08 = 1/4 in, 10 = 3/8 in. |
| AC220V | Coil voltage. A = AC220V, B = DC24V, C = AC110V, E = AC24V, F = DC12V. |
| I | Electrical entry: I = flying lead, otherwise a DIN plug. |
| PT | Port thread. PT ships from stock; G and NPT are available to order. |
A 3/2 valve has three ports — supply, outlet and exhaust — and two states. It either feeds the outlet or vents it to exhaust, and that is the whole job.
That makes it the right valve for a single-acting (spring-return) cylinder, on/off air blow, a clamp, switching a vacuum generator or suction cup, and piloting a larger valve.
It cannot run a double-acting cylinder. A double-acting cylinder needs air alternately on two sides, which takes a 5-port valve — the AirTAC 4V series.
In a small electronics assembly cell, the flying-lead 3V1M5AI pulses a compact air jet that clears debris from sensor faces before each pick, terminating straight into the cell's terminal rail.
The valve feeds and vents a spring-return clamp cylinder on a drill jig, so losing AC220V power vents the clamp line and releases the part automatically.
In a pilot circuit on a small packaging machine, the 4.5 VA AC220V coil switches an air signal to a larger main valve, with the manual override easing commissioning before the control signal is live.
3V1 is the smallest, lowest-power body in AirTAC's 3V range, but no Cv or effective area is published for it, so confirm any flow-critical duty with us. If the M5 orifice is too small, step up to 3V2 (1/8 and 1/4 ports, NC or NO selectable, Cv 0.18-0.19, also rated for vacuum) or 3V3 (1/4 port, Cv 0.62); choose 3V2M when a dense manifold matters more than flow. For double-acting cylinders, the 5-port 4V series is the right family.
Before ordering, match five points: port (M5 here, or 1/8), thread on 1/8 variants (PT is the family standard; G and NPT are catalogue options to order - an M5 valve carries no separate thread code), coil voltage, electrical entry (this SKU uses a flying lead), and single valve versus manifold station count (this code is an individual valve).

Pressure range 0-0.8 MPa (0-114 psi); medium temperature -20 to 70 C; AC220V coil power 4.5 VA (other 3V1 coils: AC110V 4.5 VA, AC24V 5.0 VA, DC24V 3.0 W, DC12V 2.5 W); protection IP65 (DIN 40050); air filtered through a 40 um or finer element; direct-acting 3/2 with spring return and manual override. No Cv or effective area is published for the 3V1 body - confirm flow duties with us.
The I in 3V1M5AI means lead-out wire type: the coil connects through a pre-wired flying lead rather than a detachable DIN socket. Both entries share the same IP65-rated coil; pick the flying lead where plug-in access is awkward or where you terminate directly onto a terminal strip.
