The AirTAC Airtac 3V1 Solenoid Valve 3V1M5F is a genuine 3-port 2-position (3/2) solenoid valve with M5 ports. It either feeds its outlet or vents it to exhaust, which is what makes it the valve for single-acting cylinders, on/off air blow, clamping, vacuum switching and pilot duty.
The 3V1M5F is the battery-friendly member of this M5 group: a 3/2, direct-acting, single-solenoid AirTAC valve whose DC12V coil needs only 2.5 W. Energise it and the outlet is fed; cut power and the spring returns the valve, venting the line. That feed-or-vent behaviour fits single-acting actuators, short air jets, clamps and pilot duties on mobile or remote equipment where 12V is what the battery gives you.
Because the coil sits in a DIN socket, a replacement or a change of entry style is a connector swap, not rewiring. The IP65 (DIN 40050) housing keeps dust and splash out, and the fitted manual override lets technicians cycle the valve with the battery disconnected. It comes in a single fixed initial state - confirm which on the datasheet.

Figures follow the official AirTAC 3V1 catalogue. Confirm coil voltage and thread (PT / NPT / G) against the product label before wiring.
| 3V1 | Body — sets the flow, the coil power and whether vacuum is rated. |
|---|---|
| M5 | Port size. M5, 06 = 1/8 in, 08 = 1/4 in, 10 = 3/8 in. |
| DC12V | Coil voltage. A = AC220V, B = DC24V, C = AC110V, E = AC24V, F = DC12V. |
| — | Electrical entry: I = flying lead, otherwise a DIN plug. |
| PT | Port thread. PT ships from stock; G and NPT are available to order. |
A 3/2 valve has three ports — supply, outlet and exhaust — and two states. It either feeds the outlet or vents it to exhaust, and that is the whole job.
That makes it the right valve for a single-acting (spring-return) cylinder, on/off air blow, a clamp, switching a vacuum generator or suction cup, and piloting a larger valve.
It cannot run a double-acting cylinder. A double-acting cylinder needs air alternately on two sides, which takes a 5-port valve — the AirTAC 4V series.
On a mobile service truck, the DC12V coil runs straight off the vehicle battery to drive a spring-return lift-assist ram on a wheelchair ramp, venting it safely the moment power is cut.
A remote irrigation channel uses a 12V battery kept charged by a small panel; the valve actuates a spring-return diversion gate for a few seconds per cycle at just 2.5 W.
A battery-powered maintenance cart carries a blow-off gun fed through this valve, letting a technician clear swarf from machine ways using the cart's own 12V supply and small compressor.
This is the lowest-power coil option on the 3V1 body, which remains the smallest in the range with no Cv published, so size the port carefully and ask us before committing to any flow-sensitive M5 job. If 2.5 W is not the constraint and flow is, step to 3V2 (1/8" or 1/4", NC or NO selectable, Cv 0.18-0.19, vacuum rated) or 3V3 (1/4", Cv 0.62); pick 3V2M when manifold density outweighs flow. And if the load is a double-acting cylinder, route the order to the AirTAC 4V series instead.
Five points to lock down: the M5 port, the M5 connection (no separate thread code exists at this size), the DC12V coil, DIN-plug versus flying-lead entry, and one valve versus a 1-20 station manifold assembly.

Operating pressure 0-0.8 MPa (0-114 psi), medium temperature -20 to 70 C, air filtered to 40 um or finer with no lubrication needed. Coil power across 3V1: AC220V 4.5 VA, AC110V 4.5 VA, AC24V 5.0 VA, DC24V 3.0 W, DC12V 2.5 W - this model takes 2.5 W at DC12V, the lowest draw in the range. IP65 (DIN 40050) protection. AirTAC publishes no Cv or effective-area figure for 3V1; confirm flow needs from the datasheet or through an RFQ.
Yes - at 2.5 W on DC12V the coil is a light load for a lead-acid or LiFePO4 battery, which is why it appears on mobile carts, vehicles and remote solar-fed panels. It drives single-acting spring-return cylinders, on/off air blow, clamps and pilot signals. It does not drive double-acting cylinders; that requires a 5-port valve such as the AirTAC 4V. For 24V DC battery systems, 3V1M5B at 3.0 W is the alternative.
