What a 3/2 Valve Does
A 3/2 valve has three ports — supply, outlet and exhaust — and two states. It either feeds the outlet or vents it to exhaust, and that is the whole job.
That makes it the right valve for a single-acting (spring-return) cylinder, on/off air blow, a clamp, switching a vacuum generator or suction cup, and piloting a larger valve.
It cannot run a double-acting cylinder. A double-acting cylinder needs air alternately on two sides, which takes a 5-port valve — the AirTAC 4V series.

Work through five points: 1/8 inch port with PT thread (G and NPT are order options), normally closed state, AC24V coil, flying-lead entry, and whether any leg of the circuit runs at negative pressure, which this body tolerates to -102.2 kPa. If technicians favour plug-and-swap coils, the DIN version 3V206NCE is the same valve without the I suffix.
Alternatives both ways: 3V1 saves coil power on DC24V (3.0 W versus 7 VA) for light duties; 3V2M packs stations onto a manifold but restricts flow to Cv 0.1; 3V3 lifts you to 1/4 inch and Cv 0.62 when the 0.19 of the 1/4 inch 3V208 is still not enough. For a double-acting cylinder, specify the AirTAC 4V 5-port series.
