The AirTAC 3V206NOB is a normally open 3/2-way direct-acting solenoid valve: supply air flows to the outlet as soon as it is connected, and energising the DC24V coil shuts the path and vents the line. That behaviour suits circuits where a line must stay live until a controller actively interrupts it. The valve drives single-acting cylinders, air blow, clamps, vacuum switching and pilot signals - never a double-acting cylinder, which needs a 5-port 4V valve.
Inside is a coaxial poppet with a single solenoid and spring return, giving good sealing at high flow for a 1/8in body: 3.2 mm2 effective area, Cv 0.18 per port. What a 3/2 Valve Does
A 3/2 valve has three ports — supply, outlet and exhaust — and two states. It either feeds the outlet or vents it to exhaust, and that is the whole job.
That makes it the right valve for a single-acting (spring-return) cylinder, on/off air blow, a clamp, switching a vacuum generator or suction cup, and piloting a larger valve.
It cannot run a double-acting cylinder. A double-acting cylinder needs air alternately on two sides, which takes a 5-port valve — the AirTAC 4V series.

Step down to a 3V1 if the duty is small and coil power is the constraint - its DC24V coil draws 3.0 W against 7.0 W here. Choose the base-mounted 3V2M only when a dense multi-station manifold outweighs flow, because routing through the base cuts Cv to 0.1. When the job needs substantially more air, the 3V3 at 1/4in and Cv 0.62 (also vacuum-rated) is the sensible step up.
Before ordering, match five points: 1/8in port with PT thread as standard (G and NPT are order options), normally open initial state, DC24V coil, DIN plug entry, and whether the circuit includes vacuum. Need a double-acting cylinder moved? That is a job for the AirTAC 4V series.
