About the Airtac 3V2 Solenoid Valve 3V208NCA
The AirTAC 3V208NCA is a 3/2-way direct-acting solenoid valve in the normally closed arrangement: with the coil de-energised the spring holds the coaxial poppet shut, so the 1/4in outlet stays vented until AC220V is applied. It feeds or vents a single line, which suits single-acting spring-return cylinders, clamps, air blow and pilot duty on a larger valve. Effective area is 3.4 mm2 (Cv 0.19) per port.
Coil draw is 7 VA on the AC220V winding, and the IP65 (DIN 40050) housing plus the DIN plug connector keep wiring to a snap-on job. A manual override is fitted for commissioning without power. Notably, the 3V2 body carries a vacuum rating of -102.2 kPa to 0.1 MPa, so the same valve can switch negative-pressure circuits that 3V1 and 3V2M cannot. What a 3/2 Valve Does
A 3/2 valve has three ports — supply, outlet and exhaust — and two states. It either feeds the outlet or vents it to exhaust, and that is the whole job.
That makes it the right valve for a single-acting (spring-return) cylinder, on/off air blow, a clamp, switching a vacuum generator or suction cup, and piloting a larger valve.
It cannot run a double-acting cylinder. A double-acting cylinder needs air alternately on two sides, which takes a 5-port valve — the AirTAC 4V series.

CNC milling vise clamping
Energising the coil pressurises the clamp cylinder on a machining fixture; de-energising vents the line so the spring retracts the vise after every cycle or power cut.

Is the Airtac 3V2 Solenoid Valve 3V208NCA the Right Part?
Confirm five points before ordering: 1/4in port with PT thread (G and NPT are catalogue options), normally closed initial state, AC220V coil, DIN plug entry, and whether the duty includes vacuum - this body is rated for it. If the flow demand outgrows Cv 0.19, the real step is the 3V3 series at Cv 0.62 on 1/4in, also vacuum-rated; moving within 3V2 buys little because the Cv only shifts from 0.18 to 0.19 across the port sizes.
Scale down when it fits: the 3V1 handles light duties with a 3.0 W DC24V coil where the 3V2 DC versions draw 7.0 W, and the 3V2M trades individual ports for a dense multi-station manifold at Cv 0.1. A double-acting cylinder needs five ports - send that duty to the AirTAC 4V series.
