About the Airtac 3V2 Solenoid Valve 3V208NCE
At AC24V the 3V208NCE runs on the low control voltage many machine builders prefer for operator safety and standard safety-circuit outputs. It is a 3/2, normally closed valve with 1/4in PT ports: until the coil is powered the outlet is closed and vented, then it opens to feed the downstream line.
Direct-acting spring return with a coaxial shut-off poppet means no pilot air is needed to shift it. Each port passes Cv 0.19 (3.4 mm2 effective area). This body is also rated for vacuum service down to -102.2 kPa, unlike the smaller 3V1, so vacuum cups and pressure circuits can share the same valve type on one machine.

What a 3/2 Valve Does
A 3/2 valve has three ports — supply, outlet and exhaust — and two states. It either feeds the outlet or vents it to exhaust, and that is the whole job.
That makes it the right valve for a single-acting (spring-return) cylinder, on/off air blow, a clamp, switching a vacuum generator or suction cup, and piloting a larger valve.
It cannot run a double-acting cylinder. A double-acting cylinder needs air alternately on two sides, which takes a 5-port valve — the AirTAC 4V series.

Down-sizing: pick 3V1 where only tiny flow and the lowest coil draw (3.0 W on DC24V) matter, or 3V2M when a manifold of closely packed stations beats the Cv 0.19 you get here. Up-sizing: the 3V3 delivers Cv 0.62 on 1/4in and still handles vacuum.
