This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is B06-SAUD40X250 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the B06-SAUD40X250 in place of this model. The SAU replacement uses the same profile body, bore, stroke, force and SC-series mounting. It moves to the current CMSG / DMSG / EMSG sensor switches (the SU used CS1-B / DS1-B) and adds the SAUF valve-integrated option.

The AirTAC Airtac B06-SUD Battery Dedicated Standard Cylinder B06-SUD40X250 is a double-acting profile-type standard cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 250mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and adjustable end cushioning. This model is discontinued — the drop-in replacement is the B06-SAUD40X250, which matches its bore, stroke, force and mounting.
The AirTAC B06-SUD40X250 is a double-acting, double-rod profile cylinder where the B06- prefix marks it as a battery-manufacturing dedicated variant of the base SUD40X250, mechanically identical to it. A rod exits both ends on a single piston, meaning both faces use the rod-side area and push/pull force is equal both ways (528 N at 0.5 MPa, 739 N at 0.7 MPa, 950 N at 0.9 MPa). The extruded aluminium profile barrel is shorter than an ISO 15552 cylinder of the same 40 mm bore. This specific SKU has no magnet (-S omitted) and cannot take a magnetic switch.
This discontinued model is replaced by the drop-in SAUD40X250, which retains the 1/4" port, M12x1.25 rod thread, and FA/LB mounting. The double-rod design provides anti-rotation stability and allows the back rod to carry a sensor cam or drive two tools simultaneously. For sizing, the safe working load is roughly 317 N (about 60% of the 528 N at 0.5 MPa figure), yielding a vertical lift capacity of approximately 27 kg with a 2:1 margin. Note that the air cushion only decelerates near stroke end; an external rod lock is required for held loads.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC SU datasheet (now discontinued). The B06-SAUD40X250 carries the same ratings. Confirm against the product label before installation. Thread options: PT / G / NPT.

The B06-SAUD40X250 produces the same force from the same bore — a true drop-in on output. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

Legacy SU-family variants: SUD (double rod), SUJ (adjustable stroke) — each maps to its SAU equivalent (SUD→SAUD, SUJ→SAUJ). The current SAU line adds the SAUF valve-integrated option.
Equal-both-ways force ensures precise, anti-rotation pressure when stacking battery cells during module assembly.
Drives two synchronized tooling actions simultaneously from one cylinder for battery tab handling on the line.
Uses the back rod to carry a sensor cam for precise positioning during battery pack alignment operations.
To replace the discontinued B06-SUD40X250, use the drop-in SAUD40X250, which matches the 40 mm bore, 250 mm stroke, 1/4" port, and FA/LB mounting. Because force is equal both ways, size it by checking neighbouring bores against your required push and pull loads. A double rod is right when you need anti-rotation stability or want to drive two tools from one cylinder. If upgrading to SAUD with a -S sensor, note the change from legacy CS1-B/DS1-B to current CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensors. For this 250 mm stroke (which is >=300 mm is not met here, but generally for longer strokes), ensure side-load alignment to prevent rod binding.
Replacement checklist
Yes, the B06-SUD40X250 (battery-manufacturing dedicated variant of SUD40X250) is discontinued. The exact drop-in replacement is the SAUD40X250, which offers the same bore, stroke, force, 1/4" port, and FA/LB mounting.
Force is equal both ways at 528 N @0.5 MPa, 739 N @0.7 MPa, and 950 N @0.9 MPa. The bore is 40 mm with a 1/4" port, a 16 mm rod, and an M12x1.25 rod thread. The safe working load is about 317 N.
