About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X125

The AirTAC BSAID100X125 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It secures the load at any position along its 125 mm travel, providing a robust static holding force of 5500 N. Because it is a double-rod actuator, the thrust is equal in both directions, delivering 3681 N of push and pull force at 0.5 MPa. A rod extends from both end caps, allowing you to mount a workpiece on one side and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite side for dual-side anti-rotation.

It is vital to distinguish the 5500 N static holding force from the 3681 N cylinder thrust; you must size the clamp's holding capacity against your static load, not the pneumatic thrust. The clamp uses a third G1/8 enclasp port to release the rod, operating within a 0.15-0.7 MPa pressure range. Furthermore, the variable air cushions at both ends only decelerate the piston near stroke end—they do not hold the load. Only the mechanical clamp secures the rod.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

5500 N
static holding force (Ø100 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø100mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa3927 N3682 N
0.7 MPa (max)5498 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (5500 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X125 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Load Holding

Secures heavy vertical lifts at any point in the 125 mm travel, preventing gravity-driven drops during an air loss event.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Holds a dual-sided workpiece rigidly for machining or inspection, using the second rod for a position flag.

shield

Emergency Stop Hold

Maintains the exact mid-stroke position of a stopped load safely when pneumatic power is removed.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X125 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this double-rod model when an application requires equal force both ways and intermediate holding, unlike a plain SAID which cannot lock. If you only need to hold at the stroke end, a SAIL cylinder suffices. If you need to step down, the 80 mm bore offers 2268 N thrust and a 3600 N holding force. The clamp locks only after the rod has stopped; it cannot brake a moving load. It must be unlocked with balanced air pressures on both sides of the piston, or the rod may jump abruptly. Safety-critical applications require an independent external measure.

This BSAID100X125 uses PT tapered ports (1/2 inch cylinder ports, G1/8 enclasp port) and accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts (omitting FB, CA, CB, CR). It lacks a standard magnet, so add an -S suffix if CMSE reed or DMSE electronic sensors are needed. The 25 mm rod thread handles high side loads, though external guidance is recommended for long strokes.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at any position?
  • ✓ Or stroke-end only → use SAIL
  • ✓ Holding force ≥ your load
  • ✓ Balanced-pressure unlock circuit
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X125 FAQ

The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 5500 N. It engages via spring pressure to hold the rod at any position bidirectionally, but only after the cylinder has stopped moving.

The clamp is released by applying air to the G1/8 enclasp port. You must balance the air pressure on both sides of the piston before unlocking, otherwise the rod may move abruptly.
