The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X150 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 150mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 5500 N.
The AirTAC BSAID100X150 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod layout and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It provides a static holding force of 5500 N, gripping the rod securely at any position along its 150 mm travel. Because it is a double-rod design, the thrust is equal in both directions at 3681 N (0.5 MPa), and having a rod extending from both ends allows you to mount a workpiece on one side and a guide or position flag on the other for dual-side anti-rotation.
A critical distinction exists between holding force and thrust: the 5500 N clamp force is entirely separate from the 3681 N cylinder thrust. You must size the clamp holding force against the static load, not the pneumatic thrust. Furthermore, the variable air cushion at stroke ends only decelerates the piston; it is the mechanical clamp that actually holds the load. Note that this lock only engages after the rod stops, meaning it cannot brake a moving load.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 3927 N | 3682 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 5498 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (5500 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures heavy vertical lifting stages at any point in the travel, preventing gravity-driven drops during air pressure loss.
Locks a dual-side workpiece firmly in place for machining or inspection, utilizing the second rod for a counter-tool or guide.
Spring-applied clamp engages instantly when air drops, safely freezing the load mid-stroke until balanced pressure is restored.
Choose this 100 mm bore if your application requires substantial mid-stroke holding, as the 5500 N clamp force easily secures heavy vertical loads. If you need less force, stepping down to an 80 mm bore offers 2268 N equal thrust and a 3600 N hold. If you only need to hold the load at the stroke end, a plain SAIL or SAID cylinder suffices, but choose this BSAID model specifically for locking anywhere along the travel. The robust M20x1.5 rod thread handles high side loads well.
When replacing a unit, match the double-rod configuration, 100 mm bore, 150 mm stroke, and PT port threads. The mounting set for this double-rod version includes Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2, deliberately omitting the FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets. Remember the clamp requires a third G1/8 enclasp port and 0.15-0.7 MPa operating pressure. Because it locks only after the cylinder stops, you must balance air pressure on both sides to unlock safely; otherwise, the rod may jump. For human-safety critical holds, add an independent mechanical measure.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 5500 N at any position. The double-rod cylinder thrust is 3681 N in both directions at 0.5 MPa.
The spring-applied clamp locks the rod only after the cylinder has stopped; it cannot brake a moving load. To unlock safely, balance the air pressure on both sides via the G1/8 enclasp port, or the rod may jump abruptly.
