The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X160S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 160mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 5500 N.
The AirTAC BSAID100X160-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It secures the load at any position along its 160 mm stroke, delivering a static holding force of 5500 N. Because it is a double-rod unit, the thrust is equal in both directions at 3681 N (0.5 MPa), and having a rod out both ends allows you to mount a workpiece on one side and a guide or counterweight on the other for dual-side anti-rotation.
It is crucial to distinguish this holding force from thrust: the 5500 N clamp rating is the static load capacity of the brake, entirely separate from the 3681 N cylinder thrust. The clamp uses a third G1/8 enclasp port for unlocking, and the variable air cushions only decelerate the piston near stroke ends—they do not hold the load. This unit includes a magnet for CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 3927 N | 3682 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 5498 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (5500 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Prevents gravity-driven drops on vertical strokes by clamping the rod at any intermediate height during power loss.
Locks a dual-sided workpiece carriage firmly in place for drilling or inspection, using the second rod for an anti-rotation guide.
Holds the load securely mid-cycle when air pressure drops, provided the cylinder has already stopped moving.
Choose this 100 mm bore if your application requires equal force both ways and a high holding capacity, stepping down from a 125 bore (5734 N thrust, 8600 N hold) saves space, while stepping up from an 80 bore (2268 N thrust, 3600 N hold) provides greater rod stability. Select this BSAID model over a stroke-end-only SAIL when you must freeze the load mid-travel. A plain SAID is sufficient if you only need guiding without中途 braking.
The 25 mm rod and M20x1.5 thread handle robust side loads, but the clamp only engages after the rod stops—it cannot brake a moving load. You must balance air pressures on both piston sides via the G1/8 unlock port to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly upon release; safety-critical loads require an independent external measure. This PT-ported cylinder accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts (omitting FB/CA/CB/CR).
Quick checklist
The static holding force is 5500 N. The spring-applied clamp locks the rod bidirectionally at any stroke position, but only after the cylinder has stopped moving; it is not a dynamic brake.
Air must be supplied to the G1/8 enclasp port to release the clamp. Pressures on both sides of the piston must be balanced before unlocking, or the rod may jump abruptly.
