A crucial design distinction is that this 5500 N holding force is entirely separate from the cylinder's 3681 N thrust; you must size the clamp's holding capacity against your static load, not the pneumatic thrust.
The dual-rod architecture exists so you can mount a workpiece on one end and attach a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite end, providing dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. The clamp mechanism uses a dedicated G1/8 enclasp port—separate from the 1/2 inch cylinder ports—and requires balanced air pressure to unlock safely. Choose this 100 mm bore model when an application demands substantial equal-force movement in both directions combined with mid-stroke holding. If you need less holding capacity, the 80 mm bore offers 2268 N pull thrust and a 3600 N clamp hold; stepping up to the 125 mm bore yields 5734 N pull thrust and an 8600 N hold. This BSAID100X500 outperforms a stroke-end-only SAIL lock because it grips anywhere along the travel, whereas a plain SAID suffices if no intermediate locking is required. The clamp engages only after the rod stops, so it cannot brake a moving load, and releasing it requires balanced pressures to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly. For safety-critical human-adjacent operations, add an independent safety measure.
As a replacement, verify the double-rod configuration, 100 mm bore, 500 mm stroke, and PT port threads. The 25 mm rod and M20x1.5 thread provide excellent rigidity and side-load resistance, but at 500 mm stroke you should still use an external guide to support the rod. The BSAID mounting set omits the FB, CA, CB, and CR foot and clevis options, accepting only Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 brackets. If position sensing is needed, add the -S magnet for CMSE reed or DMSE electronic sensors.
