The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X1000S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 1000mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 2200 N.
The AirTAC BSAID63X1000-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock mechanism. It delivers an equal thrust of 1402 N in both directions at 0.5 MPa, while the integrated enclasp gripper provides a static holding force of 2200 N at any position along the 1000 mm travel. It is crucial to distinguish holding force from thrust: the 2200 N clamp rating secures the static load independently of the 1402 N pneumatic thrust used to move it. A double-rod design is chosen not merely for equal force, but to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the other, providing dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. Furthermore, the variable air cushion at stroke ends only decelerates the piston; it is the clamp that actually holds the load. This model includes a -S magnet for CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors, and uses a third G1/8 enclasp port for unlocking.
This clamp locks bidirectionally, but only after the cylinder has stopped moving; it cannot brake a moving rod. The operating pressure is 0.15-0.7 MPa, and the clamp must be released by balancing air pressures on both sides of the piston to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly. Because human safety must never rely solely on the clamp, an additional independent safety measure is required for critical loads.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 1559 N | 1402 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 2182 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (2200 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures a vertically lifted payload at any intermediate height using the 2200 N clamp, preventing a gravity drop during an air pressure loss.
Holds a dual-sided workpiece rigidly in place for a machining or inspection process, using the double-rod layout to resist torsional deflection.
Engages the spring-applied clamp instantly upon power loss to freeze the guided tooling in its current position along the 1000 mm travel.
Choose this double-rod model when your application requires anti-rotation guidance or mounting auxiliary components on the opposite rod end. If you do not need dual-side guidance, a single-rod BSAI63X1000-S provides the same 2200 N holding force and 2182 N push thrust at 0.7 MPa. If a lower holding capacity is acceptable, stepping down to a 50 mm bore offers a 1400 N clamp force and 825 N pull thrust. This BSAID63X1000-S variant is preferred over a SAIL stroke-end lock when you must hold the load at any intermediate point, not just at the extremes. For replacement, match the 63 mm bore, 1000 mm stroke, PT port threads, and the double-rod layout. The correct mounting set for this double-rod body omits FB, CA, CB, and CR, accepting only Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 brackets. The M16x1.5 rod thread handles substantial side loads, but at 1000 mm stroke, an external guide rail is mandatory to prevent binding. Note that 1000 mm is the maximum standard stroke for this bore.
Quick checklist
The integrated clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 2200 N. It locks the rod bidirectionally at any position along the stroke, but it only engages after the cylinder has stopped; it cannot brake a moving load.
The clamp uses a third G1/8 enclasp port and requires balanced air pressure on both sides of the piston to unlock. If pressures are not balanced, the rod can jump abruptly upon release, so an independent safety measure is required for human-safety applications.
