The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X175 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 175mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 2200 N.
The AirTAC BSAID63X175 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and an integrated clamp-lock mechanism. A spring-applied, air-released gripper secures the piston rod at any position along its 175 mm travel, delivering a static holding force of 2200 N. Because it is a double-rod design, the cylinder generates equal thrust in both directions, providing 1402 N of push and pull force at 0.5 MPa. It is crucial to distinguish this 2200 N holding force from the cylinder's thrust; the clamp sustains the static load without live air pressure, whereas the thrust dictates the actuation movement.
This enclasp unit requires a third G1/8 unlock port, separate from the 3/8 cylinder ports, and operates within a 0.15-0.7 MPa range. The double-rod architecture allows you to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite end, providing dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. Remember that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near the stroke ends; the mechanical clamp is the sole device responsible for holding the load. This model uses a carbon steel rod and lacks a standard magnet, so position sensing via CMSE or DMSE switches is not supported without modification.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

| 0.5 MPa | 1559 N | 1402 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 2182 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (2200 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures a vertically lifted payload at any intermediate height using the 2200 N clamp, preventing drops during a sudden air pressure loss.
Locks the double-rod assembly rigidly in place during a machining or inspection process, absorbing static loads independently of the 1402 N thrust.
Mounts a primary work tool on one rod end and a counterweight or secondary alignment fixture on the opposite end for balanced, symmetrical operation.
Choose this double-rod clamp-lock cylinder when an application demands symmetrical force and intermediate-position holding. If you do not require a rod extending from both ends, the single-rod BSAI63X175 offers the same 2200 N holding capacity in a more compact footprint. Stepping up to a bore 80 increases the holding force to 3600 N and the thrust to 2268 N, while dropping to a bore 50 reduces the hold to 1400 N and thrust to 825 N. If you only need to secure a load at the fully extended or retracted stroke ends, a plain SAIL cylinder is a simpler alternative. For standard dual-side actuation without any locking requirement, a base SAID cylinder is sufficient.
The clamp locks only after the rod has stopped moving; it cannot brake a moving load. Furthermore, it must be unlocked with balanced air pressures on both sides of the piston, or the rod may jump abruptly upon release. For safety-critical operations, an independent external safety measure is required. This BSAID63X175 features PT tapered ports and accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, or TCM2 mounting brackets. The 20 mm rod and M16x1.5 thread provide robust side-load capacity, though for any stroke approaching 300 mm or beyond, external guidance is recommended to prevent rod binding.
Quick checklist
The integrated clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 2200 N. It engages a spring-applied, air-released gripper to secure the rod at any position along the 175 mm stroke, holding the load bidirectionally without requiring continuous air pressure.
The clamp locks only after the cylinder has stopped moving and cannot brake a moving rod. To release it safely, you must apply balanced air pressure to both sides of the piston via the G1/8 unlock port; otherwise, the rod may jump abruptly. Human-safety applications require an additional independent safety measure.
