The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X25S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 25mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 2200 N.
The AirTAC BSAID63X25-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It provides a static holding force of 2200 N, gripping the rod securely at any position along its 25 mm travel. Because it is a double-rod design, the thrust is equal in both directions at 1402 N (0.5 MPa), and the second rod allows you to mount a position flag, counterweight, or secondary tool on the opposite end for dual-side guidance.
A critical distinction is that the 2200 N clamp holding force is a separate metric from the 1402 N cylinder thrust; you must size the holding force against your static load, not the drive thrust. The clamp operates via a dedicated G1/8 enclasp port, which is entirely separate from the 3/8 cylinder ports. Note that the variable air cushions only decelerate the piston near stroke ends; the mechanical clamp is what actually holds the load.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 1559 N | 1402 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 2182 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (2200 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Suspends a vertical load securely at any point in the 25 mm travel using the 2200 N clamp, preventing drops during machining cycles.
Spring-applied clamp engages automatically on air loss to freeze the double-rod payload exactly where it stopped.
Uses the second rod for a position flag while the primary end holds the workpiece rigid for quality checks.
Choose this double-rod clamp-lock model when you need to hold a load mid-stroke rather than just at the end of travel, which is where a standard SAIL cylinder falls short. If you do not require mid-stroke locking, a plain SAID cylinder is sufficient. If you need a larger holding capacity, stepping up to the 80 mm bore increases the static hold to 3600 N and the pull thrust to 2268 N; stepping down to the 50 mm bore reduces the hold to 1400 N and thrust to 825 N.
For safe operation, remember the clamp locks only after the cylinder has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. You must unlock it with balanced air pressures on both sides of the piston, or the rod may jump abruptly. This unit includes a magnet for CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors, uses PT ports, and accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, or TCM2 mounts (omitting FB/CA/CB/CR). The 20 mm rod with an M16x1.5 thread handles side loads well, though external guidance is always recommended for precise dual-rod alignment.
Quick checklist
The spring-applied clamp provides a static holding force of 2200 N. It locks the rod bidirectionally at any position along the stroke, but only after the piston has stopped moving.
You must apply 0.15-0.7 MPa to the G1/8 enclasp port to release the clamp, but only after balancing the air pressures on both sides of the piston. If pressures are unbalanced, the rod can move abruptly upon unlocking.
