About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X300S

The AirTAC BSAID63X300-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod out both ends and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It delivers equal thrust in both directions, generating 1402 N of pull force at 0.5 MPa. A defining trait is its ability to hold a static load at any position along the 300 mm travel, gripping the rod with a documented static holding force of 2200 N. Buyers must distinguish this holding force from the cylinder thrust: the clamp resists the external load, whereas thrust dictates movement, so you must size the 2200 N against the workpiece weight rather than the 1402 N pull figure.

This enclasp mechanism requires a third G1/8 unlock port—separate from the 3/8 cylinder ports—and operates within a 0.15-0.7 MPa range. The double-rod layout is purposeful: you can mount a workpiece on one end and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the other, achieving dual-side anti-rotation. Furthermore, the variable air cushion at stroke ends only decelerates the piston; it does not hold the load. The integrated -S magnet functions seamlessly with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors for position feedback.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

2200 N
static holding force (Ø63 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø63mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa1559 N1402 N
0.7 MPa (max)2182 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (2200 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X300S Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Mid-Stroke Hold

Suspends a vertically lifted payload at any point in the 300 mm travel without relying on continuous air pressure, utilizing the 2200 N clamp.

shield

Power Failure Safety

Engages the spring-applied gripper instantly upon air loss to freeze the double-rod axis in place, preventing uncontrolled drops.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Secures a dual-sided workpiece fixture rigidly for a secondary operation, using the second rod for an anti-rotation guide.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X300S the Right Clamp-Lock?

Select this double-rod model when your application demands equal force both directions and mid-stroke holding. If 1402 N pull is excessive, the 50 mm bore offers 825 N pull and 1400 N holding force; if insufficient, the 80 mm bore provides 2268 N pull and 3600 N holding force. A plain SAID lacks a lock entirely, and a SAIL only holds at stroke ends, whereas this BSAID locks anywhere. Because the stroke is 300 mm, an external guide is recommended to prevent side-loading on the extended rod.

Implement the clamp safely: it only engages after the rod stops, meaning it cannot brake a moving load. Furthermore, you must balance the air pressure on both piston sides before unlocking, or the rod may jump abruptly. For human-safety-critical scenarios, add an independent mechanical measure. Replacement requires a double-rod, 63 mm bore, 300 mm stroke, PT ported cylinder with a G1/8 enclasp port. The BSAID mounting set omits FB, CA, CB, and CR, accepting only Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 brackets.

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X300S FAQ

The spring-applied clamp provides a static holding force of 2200 N. It grips the rod bidirectionally at any position along the stroke, but it only engages after the cylinder has stopped moving.

You must apply air to the G1/8 enclasp port to release the clamp, but only after balancing the air pressure on both sides of the piston. If pressures are unbalanced, the rod can jump abruptly upon release.
