About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X75

The AirTAC BSAID63X75 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod extending from both ends and a built-in clamp-lock mechanism. A spring-applied, air-released gripper secures the piston rod at any position along its 75 mm travel, delivering a static holding force of 2200 N. Because it is a double-rod design, the thrust is equal in both directions at 1402 N (based on 0.5 MPa), allowing you to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide or counterweight on the opposite end for dual-side anti-rotation.

It is vital to distinguish this 2200 N holding force from the cylinder's 1402 N thrust—the clamp secures the static load, while thrust moves it. The clamp operates via a third G1/8 enclasp port, requiring 0.15-0.7 MPa to release. Note that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke ends; the clamp is the true load holder. The mechanism locks only after the rod has stopped and cannot brake a moving load.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

2200 N
static holding force (Ø63 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø63mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa1559 N1402 N
0.7 MPa (max)2182 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (2200 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X75 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Lift Holding

Secures a lifted load at any point along the 75 mm travel during power loss, preventing gravity-driven drops on dual-sided vertical axes.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Holds a part rigidly for machining or inspection with 2200 N of clamping force, using the second rod for an external position flag.

shield

Emergency Stop Safety

Engages only after the cylinder stops to freeze the payload in place, requiring an independent safety measure for human-safe zones.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X75 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this double-rod model when a project requires an equal 1402 N force in both directions and dual-side guidance. If you only need unidirectional thrust, the single-rod BSAI63X200 offers a higher 1559 N push force at 0.5 MPa with the same 2200 N clamp. If holding is only needed at the stroke end rather than anywhere in transit, a SAIL cylinder suffices. For standard positioning without any lock, a plain SAID is appropriate.

This cylinder uses PT tapered ports (3/8 cylinder, G1/8 enclasp). It accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts (omitting FB/CA/CB/CR). The 20 mm rod with an M16x1.5 thread handles side loads well, but the clamp locks only after the rod stops and requires balanced piston pressure to unlock safely—otherwise the rod may jump. For safety-critical applications, add an independent external measure. No magnet is included.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at any position?
  • ✓ Or stroke-end only → use SAIL
  • ✓ Holding force ≥ your load
  • ✓ Balanced-pressure unlock circuit
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X75 FAQ

The 2200 N static holding force is the clamp's capacity to keep the rod fixed at any position, which is separate from the 1402 N thrust used to move the load. You must size the holding force against the static load weight.

No, the clamp locks only after the cylinder has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. It must be unlocked with balanced air pressure on both sides of the piston, or the rod may move abruptly upon release.
