The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID80X200 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 200mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 3600 N.
The AirTAC BSAID80X200 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod layout and an integrated clamp-lock mechanism. A spring-applied, air-released gripper clamps the piston rod to secure the load at any position along the 200mm stroke, delivering a static holding force of 3600 N. Because it is a double-rod design, the thrust is identical in both directions at 2268 N (based on 0.5 MPa pull-side operation), allowing symmetrical force for push and pull operations. It is crucial to distinguish this 3600 N holding force from the cylinder's thrust; the clamp secures a static load independently of the pneumatic drive force.
This double-rod configuration allows you to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite end, providing dual-side guidance and anti-rotation benefits. The clamp functions via a third G1/8 enclasp port and requires a balanced air pressure between 0.15-0.7 MPa to unlock safely. Remember that the variable air cushion at the stroke ends only decelerates the piston; it does not hold the load. The clamp locks only after the rod has completely stopped, serving as a static hold rather than a dynamic braking device.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 2513 N | 2268 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 3519 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (3600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures a heavy vertical lift at any intermediate position during an air pressure loss, preventing gravity-driven falls with 3600 N of static clamping force.
Holds a dual-sided workpiece fixture rigidly in place for machining or inspection, using the second rod end for an anti-rotation guide.
Engages the clamp only after the rod stops moving, providing a reliable static hold to stabilize a load during an emergency power-down sequence.
Select the BSAID80X200 when an application requires equal bidirectional force and mid-stroke holding. If you need higher thrust, stepping up to the 100mm bore offers 3681 N pull thrust and a 5500 N holding force, while dropping to the 63mm bore provides 1402 N pull thrust and 2200 N holding force. Choose this clamp-lock model over a plain SAID when power loss could cause the load to drift, as the spring-applied clamp engages automatically without live air pressure. Unlike SAIL, which only secures the load at stroke ends, this enclasp mechanism locks the rod anywhere along the travel.
For safe operation, ensure the cylinder has stopped completely before applying the clamp, as it cannot brake a moving rod. Always balance the air pressure on both sides of the piston before unlocking, or the rod may jump abruptly. For safety-critical human-interaction loads, install an additional independent safety measure. This 80mm bore uses 3/8 PT cylinder ports, features an M20x1.5 rod thread that handles high side loads, and accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts (omitting FB/CA/CB/CR due to the double-rod design). Add an -S magnet for CMSE reed or DMSE electronic sensor tracking.
Quick checklist
The integrated clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 3600 N. It engages via a spring-applied, air-released mechanism to hold the rod at any position along the stroke, independent of the cylinder's 2268 N thrust.
The clamp locks only after the cylinder has stopped moving and cannot brake a dynamic load. To release it safely, air pressure must be balanced on both sides of the piston via the G1/8 enclasp port; otherwise, the rod may jump abruptly upon unlocking.
