By default, the piston rod retracts when the coil is energised, but you can reconfigure it to extend-when-energised by repositioning the valve. The manifold connects to the cylinder via O10 x O6.5 PU tubing, meaning the 3/8" valve port and the cylinder's PT3/8" port are distinctly routed. This self-contained design eliminates remote valves, reducing panel space and PU plumbing for decentralized machine stations.

SAIF does not hold its load without air — the valve routes air, it is not a lock. For load-holding use a SAIL (lock) or BSAI (clamp-lock).

The 600mm stroke is substantial; for any stroke >= 300 mm, you must account for side loads and use a proper guide to prevent rod binding. The integrated 4M310 valve handles up to 4 cycles/sec. If your process loses air, the 5/2 valve does not hold the load; for true mechanical locking, select an AirTAC SAIL or BSAI cylinder instead.
A self-valved SAIF beats a separate cylinder plus remote valve when decentralizing stations across a large machine, saving wiring and tubing. To replace this unit, match the 63mm bore, 600mm stroke, 3/8" valve port, DC24V voltage, terminal entry, PT thread, and no magnet (-S). Note that sensors require the -S magnet option to work with AirTAC CMSE (reed) and DMSE (electronic) switches.
