AirTAC Pneumatics
The AirTAC SAU series is a profile-type standard double-acting air cylinder offering a compact footprint across 32-100 mm bores, ideal for space-constrained automation.
inventory_21374 models availableThe AirTAC SAU series is a profile-type standard cylinder featuring an extruded, hard-anodized aluminum barrel with no external tie rods. It provides a shorter, more compact footprint than an ISO 15552 cylinder of the same bore while sharing SC-series mounting accessories. It is the current-production replacement for the discontinued AirTAC SU series.
The series spans six bores from 32 to 100 mm. Rod diameters range from 12 mm to 25 mm, and ports span PT or G threads from 1/8 inch to 1/2 inch. Standard strokes reach up to 1000 mm for bore 32, 1200 mm for bores 40-50, and 1500 mm for bores 63-100. Theoretical force at 1.0 MPa spans about 82 kgf to 801 kgf.
Shared design features include double-acting operation, variable air cushions at both ends, and an integrated sensor-switch groove. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa with a proof pressure of 1.5 MPa. Standard seals are TPU, NBR, or Viton for high heat. Variants include SAUD (double rod), SAUJ (adjustable stroke), and SAUF (built-in 4M solenoid valve).

The compact profile body and integrated sensor groove make SAU cylinders ideal for diverting packages on conveyor lines where installation space is limited.
Provides reliable clamping force up to 3927 N at 0.5 MPa. The hard-anodized aluminum barrel withstands industrial environments while saving space.
The SAUJ adjustable stroke variant allows precise setup for different carton sizes without mechanical stops, improving packaging line flexibility.
Select the bore based on your force requirement: bore 32 provides about 402 N push at 0.5 MPa, while bore 100 provides 3927 N. Choose the SAUD double-rod variant for anti-rotation or higher load stability, SAUJ for adjustable stroke limits, or SAUF if you need an integrated valve. Confirm these five points: bore size, required stroke, port thread (PT or G), mounting type (LB, FA, CA, etc.), and if the -S magnet option is needed for sensors.
If your application requires a strict ISO 15552 interface, step out of the SAU series and select the AirTAC SAI series instead. The SAU is not an ISO 15552 cylinder. For load holding when pressure is lost, note that the air cushions only decelerate the piston near stroke end; you must add a mechanical lock, rod brake, or pilot check valve.
Quick checklist
The SAU series spans 6 bores from 32 to 100 mm. Push force at 0.5 MPa ranges from about 402 N to 3927 N. The theoretical maximum force at 1.0 MPa spans about 82 kgf to 801 kgf. Maximum standard strokes are 1000 mm for bore 32, 1200 mm for bores 40-50, and 1500 mm for bores 63-100.
The standard SAU is a single-rod profile cylinder. SAUD features a double rod for anti-rotation and higher lateral load stability. SAUJ offers adjustable stroke limits. SAUF includes a built-in 4M solenoid valve for direct control. All share the same 32-100 mm bore range.
Yes, the SAU is the current-production replacement for the discontinued AirTAC SU series. It shares SC-series mounting accessories. However, it is a profile-type cylinder and is NOT an ISO 15552 cylinder. If you need an ISO 15552 interface, use the AirTAC SAI series instead.
No. The SAU features variable air cushions at both ends that decelerate the piston near the stroke end. It does not function as a lock or brake. If your application requires load holding when air pressure is lost, you must use a separate mechanical lock, rod brake, or pilot check valve.
