This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ20X160-100SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ20X160-100SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ20X160-100SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø20mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ20X160-100SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ20X160-100SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 160 mm stroke by up to 100 mm, giving a usable range of 60-160 mm on site. The 20 mm bore delivers 157.1 N push and 117.8 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 219.9 N push at 0.7 MPa. Its short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and gantries. Note the 160 mm stroke exceeds the 100 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so it is a made-to-order item.
This model is discontinued. The current-production drop-in is the ACEJ20X160 (swap the P for an E), which matches the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard. The -S code on this unit means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke sensing. The B code gives a male rod thread on the 10 mm rod. A fixed TPU bumper at both ends decelerates the piston, and the stop screw is a mechanical end stop only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so it never holds a load. Plan on roughly 94 N (about 9.6 kgf) of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 4.8 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ20X160-100SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 157 N | 118 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 220 N | 165 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 32 kgf | |
The ACEJ20X160-100SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 20 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -100 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 60-160 mm adjustable range lets a setter dial in the exact ejection throw for different part heights, with 157.1 N push at 0.5 MPa enough to seat light aluminium inserts.
With the fitted -S magnet and a DMSE switch, the controller confirms the 10 mm rod has reached the trimmed stop before the next carton is released.
At about 4.8 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin, the bore handles PCB trays and connector housings in a compact cell where a full-length profile cylinder will not fit.
Size against neighbours: the 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa and the 20 mm bore here gives 157.1 N, so step up only if your jig needs the extra 56 N. If 60-160 mm of trimmable extend stroke and a male rod thread fit your fixture, this works; check FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting against the ISO 21287 face. For position feedback, the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Since this model is discontinued, order the ACEJ20X160 as the current replacement and confirm mounting dimensions from the datasheet.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 157.1 N and pulls 117.8 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 219.9 N and pulls 164.9 N. Theoretical maximum is 32 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -100 code is a 100 mm adjustment window, so the stop screw trims the 160 mm extend stroke down to as short as 60 mm. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the 160 mm stroke is a made-to-order length because the bore 20 standard maximum is 100 mm.
It is a short-body compact cylinder with a hard-anodized aluminium body, S45C hard-chrome 10 mm rod, M5x0.8 ports, male rod thread (B code) and a fixed TPU bumper at both ends - about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ20X160 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, and remember the stop screw is an end stop, not a load-holding lock.
