About the Airtac ATP Single Acting Port Compact Cylinder ATP50X5SB
A single acting pull cylinder with spring return, the ATP50X5SB keeps its rod extended by spring and retracts it with air pressure. At the 50 mm bore this yields 775 N of pull at 0.5 MPa (1127.5 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring, and the 5 mm stroke suits tiny clamp or release moves. The hard-anodized aluminium body is a compact ISO 21287 style build that saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding. Note that this model is discontinued; the current-production successor is ATE50X5.
Because the spring holds the rod out at rest, the cylinder fails to the extended position on air loss and will not hold a mid-stroke point. For sizing, treat roughly 465 N (about 0.6 of the 775 N rating) as the practical working pull at 0.5 MPa, which is enough to lift about 39 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The B code gives a male rod thread, the port is 1/8", and the S code means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke sensing. Fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends.
