AirTAC Pneumatics
The AirTAC ASQ series is a single-acting spring-return push JIS compact cylinder spanning 12-63mm bores, built for space-tight machines needing fail-safe retraction.
inventory_2186 models availableThe AirTAC ASQ series is a single-acting, spring-return push cylinder. Air pressure extends the rod, while an internal spring returns it. This provides a fail-safe retracted state when air pressure is lost. It follows the ACQ JIS-dimension compact thin body design, using C-clip retention rather than tie-rods.
The series spans eight bores: 12, 16, 20, 25, 32, 40, 50 and 63 mm. Net extend force is the air force minus the return-spring force. Because of the spring, there is a minimum pressure required before motion occurs. Size your cylinder from the specific model figure rather than bore area alone.
Design features include a fixed elastomer bumper for end-of-stroke deceleration and standard magnetic-switch grooves for position sensing (order the -S magnet option for switches). For double-acting needs, choose the ACQ; for single-acting pull, choose ATQ. The AirTAC single-acting push alternative is SSA.

Ejecting molded parts or packaging from a conveyor. The spring-return push action ensures the ejector pin retracts safely if air pressure drops, preventing jams.
Holding light workpieces in machining or assembly fixtures. The thin JIS body saves valuable fixture space, and the fixed elastomer bumper quietly decelerates the clamp.
Operating light machine safety gates or doors that must default to a closed position during an air loss event, relying on the internal mechanical spring for retraction.
Choose within the ASQ series by matching the bore size to your load after subtracting the return-spring force. Larger bores (40-63 mm) suit heavier pressing or lifting tasks, while 12-25 mm bores fit light clamping and ejecting. Always confirm the minimum operating pressure for your chosen bore.
Step out of the ASQ series to the ACQ family if you need double-acting motion, or to the ACQJ if you need adjustable stroke. For a standard ISO interface or heavy side-load guidance, a tie-rod cylinder is required instead of this compact JIS body. Before ordering, confirm these 5 points: bore size, stroke, port thread, mounting style, and whether you need the -S magnet for switches.
Quick checklist
The ASQ series spans 8 bores from 12 to 63 mm (12, 16, 20, 25, 32, 40, 50, 63 mm). It is a single-acting push cylinder. Net extend force equals the air force minus the return-spring force, meaning a minimum pressure is required before motion begins. Always size from the specific model figure.
ASQ is single-acting spring-return push (air extends, spring retracts). ACQ is the double-acting version. ATQ is the single-acting pull version. SSA is another AirTAC single-acting push alternative. ASQ uses a compact JIS body with C-clip retention, not a tie-rod design.
The ASQ uses a fixed elastomer bumper to decelerate the piston near stroke end. It does not have adjustable air cushions. The body includes standard magnetic-switch grooves. Order the -S magnet option if you need to use reed or solid-state switches for position sensing.
No. The ASQ is a single-acting push cylinder. When air pressure is lost, the internal spring forces the rod to the retracted position. This fail-safe retraction is by design. If you need the rod to hold position under load, a mechanical lock, rod brake or pilot check valve is required.
