About the AirTAC MG40

The AirTAC MG40 is a double-acting stainless-steel mini cylinder with a 40 mm bore and a 16 mm piston rod. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 628 N and pulls 528 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 880 N push and 739 N pull. Force depends on bore and pressure only, so every stroke on this page gives the same output.

All MG40 versions share 1/8" air ports, an M14×1.5 rod thread and rubber bumpers at both ends. The cylinder runs on filtered air between 0.15 and 1.0 MPa (proof 1.5 MPa), from -20 to +70 °C, at 30 to 800 mm/s. This page lists 36 stock order codes with strokes from 25 to 750 mm; the catalog maximum stroke is 500 mm, and the longer codes are non-standard strokes we already supply.

Theoretical output force (Ø40 mm)

PressurePushPull

Push = pressure × bore area; pull subtracts the Ø16 mm rod area. Usable force is lower because of friction and back-pressure.

Where the MG40 Is Used

General automation

About 628 N at 0.5 MPa covers most pushing, lifting and indexing tasks.

Clamping fixtures

Rigid mountings hold the cylinder for clamps and presses.

Doors, gates and levers

Pivoting covers and brackets drive mechanisms that swing.

Choosing the Right MG40 Configuration

Start with the stroke. Pick the exact travel your machine needs; a longer stroke adds length, weight and air consumption without adding force. If your length is not listed, request a quote and we will confirm whether it can be built.

Then choose the mounting. Basic (no code) uses the cylinder's own mounting holes. Foot and flange mountings hold the cylinder rigid for straight-line loads; clevis and trunnion mountings let it pivot when the load moves in an arc.

Finally pick the version: S adds a magnet for position sensors.

AirTAC MG40 FAQ

No. Every MG40 gives about 628 N push and 528 N pull at 0.5 MPa, whatever the stroke.

1/8" ports, PT thread as standard.

Basic mounting only. Pick a pivoting cover or bracket when the load moves in an arc, a rigid one for straight-line loads.

Usually yes. Request a quote with the stroke, mounting and version and we will confirm whether it can be built, plus price and lead time.

0.15 to 1.0 MPa operating pressure (proof 1.5 MPa) and -20 to +70 °C on filtered air.

No. You can order a single MG40. Orders are processed and handed to the carrier within 3-5 business days.
