About the Airtac ACED Double-acting Compact Cylinder ACED20X55
Double acting and double rod, the ACED20X55 pushes a piston rod out of BOTH covers of a 20 mm bore, so the force is identical in each direction: 117.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 164.9 N at 0.7 MPa on the rod-side area. AirTAC builds the short ISO 21287 body in hard-anodized aluminium with an S45C hard-chrome-plated rod, and the 55 mm stroke keeps the whole unit small enough for tight jigs and guarding where a full-length cylinder will not fit.
Because a rod exits the rear cover too, the through-rod resists rotation and light side load and gives you a symmetric mount: the back rod can carry a sensor flag or a second tooling plate. A fixed TPU bumper at each end absorbs end-of-stroke shock, and speed runs 30-500 mm/s at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi). In practice, plan on roughly 70 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 0.6 of the rating), which corresponds to lifting around 6 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note that this plain cylinder drifts when air is lost, so add a rod lock or pilot check if the load must be held.
