This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACE16X160S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACE16X160S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACP Compact Cylinder ACP16X160S is a double acting DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACE16X160S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and DIN-standard compact, the ACP16X160S moves its 8 mm rod with air in both directions and carries a fixed TPU bumper at each end. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 140.7 N and 105.6 N, with a theoretical ceiling of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 160 mm stroke is longer than the 75 mm standard limit for a 16 mm bore, so it is a made-to-order build. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ISO 21287 ACE16X160 in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs, guards and gantries. The -S code on this unit means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body. As a buyer rule of thumb, plan on about 60 N (roughly 6 kg) of usable push at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 100.5 N rating, and expect about 10 kg of vertical lift capability at that pressure, or about 5 kg with a 2:1 margin. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the female rod thread is M4x0.7.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACE16X160S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACE16X160S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACP | DIN compact cylinder (double-acting, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to eject machined bushings or plastic caps from light jigs, and the 160 mm made-to-order stroke reaches deep into the fixture where a standard 75 mm unit cannot.
Because the -S magnet is fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches report door open and closed states on instrumentation cabinets, with the 30-500 mm/s speed range keeping motion gentle.
With about 10 kg of vertical lift capability at 0.5 MPa (about 5 kg at a 2:1 margin), the 16 mm bore indexes small trays or sensor carriages in compact gantries that cannot fit a full-length profile cylinder.
At 16 mm bore this sits in the light-force band: 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step down to the 12 mm bore (56.5 N at 0.5 MPa) for lighter pick-and-place, or up to 20 mm (157.1 N) when the load creeps higher. Note that a plain unit of this type drifts when air is lost - it does not hold position - so add a rod lock or pilot check valve if the load must stay put. FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis mounts bolt to the standard face, and this -S version already carries the magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. Before ordering, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions of the ACE16X160 replacement, since the ACP is a DIN-standard body.
Replacement checklist
Push is 100.5 N and pull 75.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa it is 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It is double acting with a 16 mm bore, 160 mm made-to-order stroke, 8 mm rod, M5x0.8 port, M4x0.7 female rod thread, PT body ports, 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) operating pressure, 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, -20 to +70 C temperature range and 30-500 mm/s speed. Fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends.
Order the ACE16X160, the current-production ISO 21287 successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same 16 mm bore, 160 mm stroke and force class in a short compact body. The ACE carries the same FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis mounting family and the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. Because the ACP was DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping.
