This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACE16X40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACE16X40 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACP Compact Cylinder ACP16X40 is a double acting DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACE16X40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACP16X40 is a double acting DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 16 mm bore and 40 mm stroke. It pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N at 0.5 MPa, rising to 140.7 N on the extend stroke at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Air supply runs 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) and rod speed 30-500 mm/s.
Its hard-anodized aluminium body and S45C hard-chrome rod fit the short ISO 21287 class, so it takes up roughly half the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder - ideal for slim jigs and guarding. At 0.5 MPa the extend force supports about 60 N of real work, which lifts roughly 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is ACE16X40, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACE16X40 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACE16X40 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACP | DIN compact cylinder (double-acting, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×40 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N extend force at 0.5 MPa is enough to push stamped terminals or plastic caps out of a nest, and the 40 mm stroke clears the part without wasting panel space.
With the optional -S magnet and CMSE / DMSE switches, the cylinder confirms a connector is seated; the short ISO 21287 body slots between PCB test fixtures.
About 5 kg of vertical working capacity at 0.5 MPa suits hold-down of cartons or trays on a conveyor line, with the fixed TPU bumper softening end-of-stroke contact.
For a 40 mm stroke in this force band, compare the 12 mm bore (56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa) if the load is light, or step up to the 20 mm bore (157.1 N) when you need more thrust. The ACP16X40 has a female M4x0.7 rod thread and an M5x0.8 air port; a male thread version is ordered with the B code. It does not hold position when air is lost - add a rod lock or pilot check valve for a held load. Mounting covers FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis. If you need switch feedback, order the -S code to enable CMSE / DMSE sensors; without -S there is no magnet. This model is discontinued and replaced by ACE16X40.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N. The theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) and speed 30-500 mm/s.
No - the ACP family is discontinued. The current-production replacement is ACE16X40 (swap the P for an E), an ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was built to the DIN standard.
