This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACE16X40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACE16X40S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACP Compact Cylinder ACP16X40S is a double acting DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACE16X40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACP16X40S is a double acting compact cylinder in the DIN-standard ACP series, with a 16 mm bore and 40 mm stroke driving an 8 mm rod through a female M4x0.7 thread. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those figures rise to 140.7 N and 105.6 N, with a theoretical ceiling of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Its short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit.
This -S version carries the optional magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body to report rod position. Air supply runs 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) at speeds of 30-500 mm/s, with fixed TPU bumpers at both ends. Plan on about 60 N (roughly 6 kg) of usable push at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating, which means it lifts about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note that ACP16X40S is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is ACE16X40, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACE16X40S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACE16X40S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACP | DIN compact cylinder (double-acting, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×40 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick finished bushings or caps off a jig, and the 40 mm stroke keeps the fixture footprint small.
With the fitted -S magnet and a CMSE or DMSE switch, the PLC confirms the 8 mm rod has fully clamped a PCB or sensor module before the test cycle starts.
About 6 kg of usable push at 0.5 MPa, or roughly 5 kg vertical lift with a 2:1 margin, suits raising a small gate or tray inside a slim gantry.
Size both ways: if 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa is marginal for your load, step up to the 20 mm bore (157.1 N push); if the load is light and space is very tight, the 12 mm bore (56.5 N) may be enough. The 40 mm stroke sits well inside the 75 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so it is a catalogue item, not a made-to-order build. Match FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounting to your fixture, and remember the female M4x0.7 rod thread takes an I or Y knuckle. Because a plain cylinder drifts when air is lost, add a rod lock or pilot check valve if the load must hold position. Order ACE16X40 as the current replacement for this discontinued model.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa the 16 mm bore pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N. At 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N. The theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, speed range 30-500 mm/s, and the 40 mm stroke is within the 75 mm standard maximum for this bore.
No, the ACP family is discontinued. The current-production replacement is ACE16X40, an ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class. The short body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder and accepts the same FA/FB, LB and CA/CB mounting family, but because the ACP was DIN-standard you should confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. The -S magnet on this model carries over as an option, with CMSE / DMSE switches.
