This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACE16X85SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACE16X85SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACP Compact Cylinder ACP16X85SB is a double acting DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 85mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACE16X85SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting compact cylinder with a 16 mm bore and an 85 mm stroke, the ACP16X85SB pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N at 0.5 MPa (rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa). The S code means the optional -S magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the hard-anodized aluminium body. The B code gives a male rod thread on the 8 mm S45C hard-chrome rod, and the port is M5x0.8.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. Note that 85 mm exceeds the 75 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. In practice, plan on roughly 60 N (about 6 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin) of usable force at 0.5 MPa. This model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACE16X85, and you should confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACE16X85SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACE16X85SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACP | DIN compact cylinder (double-acting, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×85 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The fitted -S magnet with a DMSE switch confirms full extension before a 6 mm connector is pushed off a nest, using the 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa.
The short body, about 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, slots into drilled fixture pockets where the male rod thread drives a swing clamp arm.
A CMSE switch on the magnet signals retraction between test cycles, while the 85 mm stroke indexes vials under a dispensing head at 30-500 mm/s.
At 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, this bore sits between the 12 mm size (56.5 N) and the 20 mm size (157.1 N), so step up to 20 mm if your mechanism needs more margin. The 85 mm stroke is non-standard for bore 16 (75 mm max standard), so expect a made-to-order unit. With the -S magnet fitted, add CMSE or DMSE switches for end-of-stroke sensing; FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounting bolts to the standard face. For a held load when air is lost, plan a rod lock or pilot check valve, since the piston will drift. Replacement: order ACE16X85 and verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. A practical rule of thumb is to size the task at about 60 N of push force, which corresponds to lifting roughly 6 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, and speed runs 30-500 mm/s.
Yes. The maximum standard stroke for a 16 mm bore is 75 mm, so 85 mm is a non-standard, made-to-order stroke - confirm the lead time when ordering. Also note the ACP family is discontinued. The current-production replacement is the ACE16X85 (swap the P for an E), which matches the same bore, stroke and force class; verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before the swap because the ACP was built to a DIN-standard footprint.
