This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACED50X40SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACED50X40SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPD Double Rod Compact Cylinder ACPD50X40SB is a double acting, double rod DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø50mm bore and 40mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACED50X40SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting compact cylinder with a rod leaving both covers, the ACPD50X40SB pushes and pulls with identical force: 881.2 N at 0.5 MPa and 1233.7 N at 0.7 MPa in either direction, because both strokes work on the rod-side area of the 50 mm bore. The 16 mm through-rod resists rotation and side load, gives a symmetric mounting face, and lets the rear rod carry a sensor flag. This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke signals.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs, guards and gantries. A fixed TPU bumper sits at each end, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries 1/8" ports, and the male rod thread (B code) bolts straight to I/Y knuckles. Plan on about 529 N of usable work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 27 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note that this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACED50X40, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACED50X40SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Force (both ways) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 881 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 1234 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 180 kgf |
Double-rod: a rod exits both covers, so output force is equal in both directions (rod-side area used).
| ACPD | DIN compact cylinder (double-rod, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 50 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×40 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The equal 881.2 N force in both directions lets one 50 mm bore clamp and release a machined housing on a CNC fixture with the same rated grip each way.
On a packaging line transfer, the back-end rod carries a flag past a DMSE switch while the front rod pushes cartons at 30-500 mm/s.
The through-rod resists rotation on a short-stroke slide that indexes small electronics trays, with the TPU bumpers decelerating each end of the 40 mm travel.
At 881.2 N per direction, bore 50 sits between the 40 mm (571.8 N) and 63 mm (1458.1 N) choices in the same family, so step down for lighter clamps or up for heavier presses. The 40 mm stroke is well inside the 250 mm standard limit for this bore, so no made-to-order build is needed. If the load must stay put when air is lost, add a rod lock or pilot check - a plain through-rod cylinder drifts. Match FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts to the fixture, keep the -S magnet if CMSE/DMSE switching is required, and order the ACED50X40 as the current replacement.
Replacement checklist
No - the double-rod design puts a 16 mm rod through both covers, so both strokes use the rod-side area and force is equal both ways: 881.2 N at 0.5 MPa and 1233.7 N at 0.7 MPa. At 1.0 MPa the bore reaches a maximum of 179.7 kgf. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof limit, and speed runs 30-500 mm/s.
The ACPD50X40SB is no longer in production. Swap the P for an E and order the ACED50X40, the current ISO 21287 successor in the same 50 mm bore, 40 mm stroke and force class. Because the ACP is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions and the male rod thread before swapping, and re-check FA/FB or LB bracket fitment.
