This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACED63X40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACED63X40S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPD Double Rod Compact Cylinder ACPD63X40S is a double acting, double rod DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø63mm bore and 40mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACED63X40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This ACPD63X40S is a double acting, double-rod compact cylinder in the DIN-standard ACP family, now discontinued. A 16 mm rod exits both covers, so the 63 mm bore delivers an identical 1458.1 N at 0.5 MPa (2041.3 N at 0.7 MPa) on every stroke, because both sides work on the rod-side area. The through-rod resists rotation and side load, gives a symmetric mount, and the rear rod can carry a sensor flag. Stroke is 40 mm, well inside the 250 mm standard range for this bore.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs and guarded gantries. Practical sizing: treat about 875 N (0.6 of the 0.5 MPa rating) as usable work force, which is roughly 44 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin. The optional -S magnet is fitted on this model, so CMSE / DMSE switches mount directly. As the ACPD is no longer produced, order the current ACED63X40 drop-in and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACED63X40S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Force (both ways) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 1458 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 2041 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 297 kgf |
Double-rod: a rod exits both covers, so output force is equal in both directions (rod-side area used).
| ACPD | DIN compact cylinder (double-rod, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 63 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×40 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 40 mm stroke and equal 1458.1 N force in both directions let one through-rod clamp and release a machined housing from the same cylinder body in a milling fixture.
With a rod at each cover, the same cylinder can push a carton onto a conveyor and retract a pusher plate without a second actuator, at speeds of 30-500 mm/s.
The rear rod carries a flag for CMSE or DMSE switches (enabled by the fitted -S magnet), giving end-of-stroke confirmation on a compact gantry slide.
At 1458.1 N per side at 0.5 MPa, the 63 mm bore covers medium clamping and pressing; step down to the 50 mm bore (881.2 N) for lighter work or up to the 80 mm bore (2356.2 N) when more force is needed. Remember the piston drifts if air is lost, so add a rod lock or pilot check for a held load. FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting bolts to the ISO 21287 face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. For new projects, specify the current-production ACED63X40.
Replacement checklist
Yes. Because a 16 mm rod exits both covers, both strokes use the rod-side area of the 63 mm bore: 1458.1 N at 0.5 MPa and 2041.3 N at 0.7 MPa, equal in each direction, with a maximum of 297.4 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure.
AirTAC no longer produces the ACPD family. The current drop-in is the ACED63X40 (swap the P for an E), an ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class with the same FA/FB flange and LB foot mounting family. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN standard.
