This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ20X100-40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ20X100-40S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ20X100-40S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø20mm bore and 100mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ20X100-40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the ACPJ20X100-40S is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 20 mm bore, 100 mm stroke and a 10 mm hard-chrome S45C rod. An external stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere in the ordered 40 mm window, giving a usable range of 60-100 mm, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 157.1 N and pulls 117.8 N, rising to 219.9 N push at 0.7 MPa.
The hard-anodized aluminium body is an ISO 21287-class short build that saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and gantries. Plan on roughly 94 N (about 0.6 of the push rating) of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 8 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The S code means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE switches can be mounted. This model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ20X100, same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ20X100-40S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 157 N | 118 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 220 N | 165 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 32 kgf | |
The ACEJ20X100-40S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 20 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×100 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 157.1 N push at 0.5 MPa seats aluminium workpieces in drill jigs, and the 60-100 mm trim range absorbs pallet height changes without re-plumbing.
With about 94 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa this bore nudges misprinted cartons off a conveyor lane, while the fitted magnet drives a DMSE switch for reject confirmation.
The vertical-lift margin of about 8 kg raises microplate stacks between stations, and the short ISO 21287-class body fits under low gantry frames.
Size against neighbours: the 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while the 25 mm class steps up well past this 20 mm bore's 157.1 N. Choose the 40 mm window only if your fixture genuinely needs trimming between 60 and 100 mm; a fixed-stroke ACE suits set-and-forget stations. FA/FB flanges and LB feet bolt to the ISO 21287 face, and the fitted magnet pairs with CMSE / DMSE switches for end-of-stroke signals. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the piston still drifts. For new builds, order the ACEJ20X100.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 157.1 N and pulls 117.8 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 219.9 N and pull 164.9 N, with a theoretical maximum of 32 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code gives a 40 mm adjustment window, so the extend stroke can be trimmed anywhere between 60 and 100 mm. Ports are M5x0.8, speed runs 30-500 mm/s, and pressure spans 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).
The ACPJ family is out of production; the current drop-in is the ACEJ20X100, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class in the ISO 21287 short body. Because the ACP is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. On this S-coded model the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted for position feedback.
