This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ20X120-20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ20X120-20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ20X120-20SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø20mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ20X120-20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ20X120-20SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 120 mm stroke by up to 20 mm on site, giving a usable range of 100-120 mm. The B code gives a male 10 mm rod thread and the S code carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke signalling. Note that the 120 mm stroke exceeds the 100 mm maximum standard stroke for bore 20, so this unit is made to order.
At 0.5 MPa the bore 20 piston delivers 157.1 N push and 117.8 N pull; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 219.9 N push. As a rule of thumb plan on roughly 94 N (about 9.6 kg) of real work, and for vertical lifts halve the 16 kgf equivalent to match parts of about 8 kg. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, and the fixed TPU bumper at both ends simply decelerates the piston - it never locks or holds a load, so on air loss the rod still drifts. This model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ20X120, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ20X120-20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 157 N | 118 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 220 N | 165 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 32 kgf | |
The ACEJ20X120-20SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 20 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Trims the extend stroke from 120 mm down to 100 mm with the stop screw so a 157.1 N push clamps aluminium machined parts inside a tight drilling fixture.
The 100-120 mm adjustable range kicks lightweight cartons off a packaging conveyor at 30-500 mm/s, with the -S magnet feeding a DMSE switch to the PLC.
About 9.6 kg of usable push at 0.5 MPa seats sample vials in an automated test bench where the short body fits under a low gantry frame.
Size the load both ways: bore 16 pushes 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa if your fixture is tight on force, while bore 25-class units step up from this 157.1 N bore 20. If you need the rod held under load at mid-stroke, remember the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke - it is not a brake. Match FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts and I/Y rod knuckles to the ISO 21287 face, and specify the -S magnet code if CMSE / DMSE switch feedback is needed. Since the ACPJ is discontinued, order the ACEJ20X120 as the current replacement and verify mounting dimensions against the ISO 21287 datasheet.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 157.1 N and pulls 117.8 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 219.9 N and pull 164.9 N; theoretical maximum is 32 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It is double acting with a 20 mm adjustment window (usable stroke 100-120 mm), M5x0.8 ports, a male 10 mm rod thread, operating pressure 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s and a fixed TPU bumper at both ends. The 120 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 100 mm standard maximum for bore 20.
The hard-anodized aluminium short body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and gantries. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the standard ISO 21287 face. The ACPJ family is discontinued - order the ACEJ20X120 as the current drop-in and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before the swap.
