About the Airtac ASE Single Acting Plunger Type Compact Air Cylinder ASE40X5
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASE40X5 uses compressed air to extend the rod and an internal return spring to retract it, so it needs only one air line and sits normally retracted at rest. With a 40 mm bore it delivers 556.8 N of push at 0.5 MPa (net of the spring) and 808.1 N at 0.7 MPa, and it needs at least 0.2 MPa to overcome the spring. The 5 mm stroke suits tiny eject, clamp or press-check moves where travel is measured in millimetres.
The short ISO 21287 body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixture plates and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. In practice, plan on roughly 334 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which is about 28 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin - enough to lift a small fixture lid or kick a light part off a nest.
