This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ATE16X10SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ATE16X10SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ATP Single Acting Port Compact Cylinder ATP16X10SB is a single acting, pull (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 10mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ATE16X10SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting compact pull cylinder with spring return, the ATP16X10SB uses a 16 mm bore and a short 10 mm stroke to retract a load with air while an internal spring keeps the rod extended at rest. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 53.3 N of pull, already net of the spring, and 83.5 N at 0.7 MPa. Air filtered to 40 um, 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) working pressure and 50-500 mm/s speed cover typical light-duty circuits. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ATE16X10 in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures and guarded stations. Because the S code is fitted, this unit carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clamped on for end-of-stroke signal. The B code gives a male rod thread on the 8 mm rod, and the M5x0.8 port suits small-diameter tubing. Plan on about 32 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which is roughly a 3 kg vertical pull with a 2:1 margin.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ATE16X10SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Pull force (spring return) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 53.3 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 83.5 N |
Single-acting pull: the spring extends the rod; air retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.
| ATP | DIN compact cylinder (single-acting pull, spring-return, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×10 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Retracts a small plastic slide gate on a packaging machine filler; the spring holds the gate open if air pressure drops.
With the fitted -S magnet and a DMSE switch, confirms rod position on a 10 mm eject station in an electronics assembly jig.
Pulls a locating pin out of a drill jig on a short-stroke indexing fixture where a full-length profile cylinder will not fit.
Size the bore against your retraction load: if 53.3 N at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to the 20 mm bore (88.1 N pull at 0.5 MPa); if you need more margin still, the 25 mm bore gives 170.9 N. Remember the spring only returns the rod to its extended home position on air loss - it never holds a mid-stroke position. This ATP16X10SB is discontinued, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions of the ATE16X10 before swapping, and match FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis brackets when you re-order.
Replacement checklist
It is a single acting pull cylinder, spring extend: the spring pushes the rod out and air retracts it. Net pull (spring already deducted) is 53.3 N at 0.5 MPa and 83.5 N at 0.7 MPa. Minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa to overcome the spring, maximum is 1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure. Speed range is 50-500 mm/s and the fluid is air filtered to 40 um.
Order the ATE16X10, the current ISO 21287 successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same 16 mm bore, 10 mm stroke and force class in a matching short body. Before swapping, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture, since the ATP follows the DIN-standard footprint. The fixed TPU bumpers at both ends carry over in function, decelerating the rod at each end of travel.
