This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ATE20X5B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ATE20X5B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ATP Single Acting Port Compact Cylinder ATP20X5B is a single acting, pull (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø20mm bore and 5mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ATE20X5B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting pull cylinder with spring return (discontinued), the ATP20X5B keeps the rod extended at rest and uses air at 0.2 MPa or higher to retract it over a 5 mm stroke. At 0.5 MPa the net pull is 88.1 N (135.2 N at 0.7 MPa, already net of the spring), with a male rod thread (B code) and an M5x0.8 port on the 20 mm bore. The hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod suits -20 to +70 C service at 50-500 mm/s.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight sensor brackets and small clamping fixtures. Practically, plan on roughly 53 N of usable pull at 0.5 MPa (about 0.6 of the rating), which lifts about 4 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ATE20X5 (swap the P for an E), so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ATE20X5B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Pull force (spring return) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 88.1 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 135.2 N |
Single-acting pull: the spring extends the rod; air retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.
| ATP | DIN compact cylinder (single-acting pull, spring-return, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 20 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×5 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The spring holds a 10 mm rod probe out of the way; a 0.2 MPa air pulse pulls it clear for 5 mm while a CMM or vision system scans the part.
An 88.1 N net pull at 0.5 MPa is enough to tug a liner or swing a light gate arm 5 mm between cartons running at 50-500 mm/s.
The normally-extended pin seats a bracket; air retracts it 5 mm for loading, and a power cut fails safe to the extended position.
Size by net pull: 88.1 N at 0.5 MPa here, 53.3 N at 0.5 MPa if you drop to a 16 mm bore, or 170.9 N at 0.5 MPa if you step up to 25 mm. The 5 mm stroke is short and quick, so the spring-extend action suits return-to-home ejection or release tasks rather than mid-stroke holding - on air loss the spring always drives the rod back out. This unit has the male rod thread (B) and no magnet; if you later need CMSE or DMSE switch position feedback, order the -S code instead. For new builds, specify the ATE20X5, the current ISO 21287 successor.
Replacement checklist
Net pull (already net of the return spring) is 88.1 N at 0.5 MPa and 135.2 N at 0.7 MPa on the 20 mm bore. Working pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof rating; at least 0.2 MPa is needed to overcome the spring. Speed range is 50-500 mm/s, fluid is air filtered to 40 um, and the port is M5x0.8. For a real-world margin, treat about 53 N as the usable pull, roughly a 4 kg vertical lift.
It is a short-body compact cylinder whose mounting length is about 50% less than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a fixed TPU bumper at both ends and FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis options. The ATP family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ATE20X5 (P changed to E) in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. Note this unit has no magnet; the optional -S code enables CMSE / DMSE switches.
