This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ATE50X20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ATE50X20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ATP Single Acting Port Compact Cylinder ATP50X20SB is a single acting, pull (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø50mm bore and 20mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ATE50X20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a single acting pull cylinder with spring return: the spring extends the rod and compressed air retracts it, so the ATP50X20SB sits normally extended at rest and fails to the extended position on air loss. At 0.5 MPa it delivers a net pull of 775 N (1127.5 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring, and it needs at least 0.2 MPa to overcome the spring. The 50 mm bore takes a 1/8" port and a 16 mm rod with a male thread from the B code. Production has ended - the current drop-in is ATE50X20, same bore, stroke and force class.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight clamping stations where a full-length body will not fit. Because this unit carries the optional -S magnet, CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be bolted on for end-of-stroke signal. For sizing, treat roughly 465 N (about 47 kg of pull) as the realistic working force at 0.5 MPa, and expect it to lift about 39 kg vertically once you keep a 2:1 margin on the 79 kgf raw figure. A fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the rod; operating range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) at 50-500 mm/s.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ATE50X20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Pull force (spring return) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 775.0 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 1127.5 N |
Single-acting pull: the spring extends the rod; air retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.
| ATP | DIN compact cylinder (single-acting pull, spring-return, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 50 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×20 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The spring holds the clamp closed on an aluminium machining fixture; 775 N net pull at 0.5 MPa retracts the jaw only while air is applied, so a power cut leaves the part clamped.
The rod stays extended to block bottles at a diverter; a 20 mm air pulse pulls the pin back for one lane change, with the -S magnet feeding a CMSE switch back to the PLC.
The latch stays engaged by spring force at rest; 465 N of usable pull at 0.5 MPa releases it for each carton, and the short body fits inside the sealing head frame.
Size against neighbours: the 40 mm bore pulls 500.3 N at 0.5 MPa, while the 63 mm bore reaches 1320 N - pick the 50 mm when your clamp or gripper needs roughly 775 N net. If your job pushes instead of pulls, look at the single-acting ASP or the double-acting ACP family. Match the LB foot, FA/FB flange or CA/CB clevis to your fixture, and order CMSE/DMSE switches only because this -S version carries the magnet. Before swapping, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions of the ATE50X20 replacement, since this DIN-standard body is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
Net of the return spring, this 50 mm bore pulls 775 N at 0.5 MPa and 1127.5 N at 0.7 MPa. It is single acting: the spring extends the rod and air retracts it, so at least 0.2 MPa is needed to move the rod at all. Working range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 50-500 mm/s, port 1/8".
The ATP family is out of production; the current-production successor is ATE50X20, which swaps the P for an E and keeps the same 50 mm bore, 20 mm stroke and force class. The ATE follows ISO 21287, so confirm the mounting hole pattern and port position against your existing DIN-standard fixture before ordering. Keep the -S magnet in the new code if you run CMSE or DMSE switches.
