The AirTAC Airtac MAJ Double Rod Adjustable Stainless Steel Mini Cylinder MAJ40X450-10S is a genuine double acting, adjustable stroke standard round-body mini air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 450mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a stainless-steel barrel with a hard-chrome-plated rod for reliable, mildly corrosion-resistant service.
Fine commissioning over a long throw defines the MAJ40X450-10S: 450 mm of stroke with a narrow 10 mm trim set by the external stop screw at start-up. You keep the full output of the 40 mm bore - 628 N push at 0.5 MPa, rising to 880 N at 0.7 MPa - inside a riveted stainless round body that tolerates splash, humidity and outdoor exposure thanks to a 20 um hard-chrome plated rod.
In everyday terms the cylinder gives about 377 N of dependable work at 0.5 MPa, equal to lifting some 64 kg vertically, or 32 kg if you hold a 2:1 margin. Fixed bumper pads soften the ends of travel; they decelerate only, which is not the same as the adjustable cushioning on the MACJ type. The position magnet comes fitted, so adding CMSG, DMSG or EMSG reed switches is a clip-on task, not a special order.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC MA-series datasheet. Barrel: stainless-steel tube (round-body, riveted rolling-packed construction); piston rod: carbon steel with 20µm hard-chrome plating; covers: aluminium alloy. Thread options: PT (blank) / G / NPT. Every MA-series cylinder ships with a built-in magnet for CMSG / DMSG / EMSG position sensors.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 628 N | 528 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 880 N | 739 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 128 kgf | |
Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure. Size with a safety margin.
| MAJ | Standard round-body mini cylinder (adjustable-stroke). |
|---|---|
| 40 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×450 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -10 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| -S | Built-in magnet for CMSG / DMSG / EMSG sensors (standard on MA series). |
| CA / U / CM | Back-cover type: CA pivot, U flat-end, CM round-end. |
MA-family variants: MA / MAC (double acting ±cushion), MSA / MTA (single acting push / pull), MAD / MACD (double rod ±cushion), MAJ / MACJ (adjustable stroke ±cushion), MAR (cushioned with integrated F/U mount). Mounting accessories: FA flange, LB foot, SDB pivot; plus I and Y knuckles. Thread PT (blank) / G / NPT.
Sets the overflow gate on a bottling line filler to the last 10 mm, locking the cut-off height for each bottle size.
Positions the backgauge stop on a small metal-cutting bandsaw, where the trim screw dials the cut length in precisely.
Drives a long dosing ram that tops up reagent tanks, with the 10 mm window trimming the exact fill point.
When 402 N from an MAJ32 at 0.5 MPa leaves the job short, this is the step up - and the top of the MA line. The tight 10 mm window is for dialing in an exact stop point rather than adapting to different products, and it acts only on extension: if air pressure is lost the rod is free to drift, so a separate holding valve is needed where load must stay put. Over 450 mm of travel, externally guide the load to protect the 16 mm rod; fix via FA flange or LB foot, or pick up I and Y knuckles for articulated loads.
Quick checklist
Push is 628 N and pull 528 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa expect 880 N and 739 N; theoretical peak force is 128 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It runs double-acting on 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) of air filtered to 40 um, from -20 to +70 C at 30-800 mm/s, with a 1/8 in. port and a 10 mm extend-stroke trim window.
The piston magnet is installed as standard on every MA-series cylinder, so AirTAC CMSG, DMSG and EMSG switches attach directly to the stainless barrel with no special-order piston. That gives repeatable end-of-stroke and mid-travel signalling on the 450 mm stroke; the rod thread is M12x1.25 for attaching tooling.
