About the Airtac SAIJ160 Adjustable Cylinder SAIJ160AX80-20

The AirTAC SAIJ160X80-20 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rear stroke adjuster that creates a 60-80 mm usable travel window from its 80 mm nominal stroke. It delivers 10053 N of push force at 0.5 MPa, making it suitable for heavy-duty positioning. The extruded aluminum barrel includes sensor grooves on both sides for flexible switch placement.

This variant uses a SUS420J2 stainless steel rod (code A) and PT tapered port threads. The rear adjustment screw acts as a mechanical stop to fine-tune the retract position without adding external spacers, while the variable air cushions at both ends manage deceleration. It is not a locking device and will not hold a load without live air pressure.

Is the Airtac SAIJ160 Adjustable Cylinder SAIJ160AX80-20 the Right Cylinder?

Choose this 160 mm bore when you need high force (10053 N at 0.5 MPa) and a compact 80 mm stroke with exact end-position tuning. If your application requires less force, a 125 mm bore provides 6136 N at 0.5 MPa. The adjustable stroke is ideal for machine setups requiring precise variable end-stops without swapping cylinders, unlike a fixed-stroke SAI model.

For ISO 15552 dimensional replacements, match the 160 mm bore, 80 mm stroke, 20 mm adjustment, PT G3/4 port, and Basic/FA/LB/TC/FTC/TCM1/TCM2 mounting interface. Because the stroke is under 300 mm, side-load risks are minimized, but the 40 mm rod and M36x2 thread provide excellent rigidity. For load-holding without live air, consider an external rod lock or the SAIL pneumatic lock series instead of relying on the rear stopper.

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • check Use clean air filtered to 40µm or finer.
  • check Keep within 0.15 – 1.0 MPa operating pressure.
  • check Avoid side load on the piston rod.
  • check Adjust end cushion screws for smooth stops.
  • check Use correct mounting accessory (FA/FB/CA/CB/LB/TC).
  • check Installation by qualified personnel per AirTAC docs.

Airtac SAIJ160 Adjustable Cylinder SAIJ160AX80-20 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, this 160 mm bore cylinder provides 10053 N of push force and 9425 N of pull force. At 0.9 MPa, the push force increases to 18095 N.

The rear adjuster screw lets you shorten the 80 mm nominal stroke by up to 20 mm, creating a 60-80 mm usable travel window. It acts as a mechanical stop for end-position tuning and does not lock the load without live air.
