This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACED100X400B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACED100X400B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPD Double Rod Compact Cylinder ACPD100X400B is a double acting, double rod DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø100mm bore and 400mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACED100X400B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting, double-rod compact cylinder built to the DIN-standard ACP format, the ACPD100X400B pushes a 25 mm rod out of BOTH covers, so its 100 mm bore delivers the same 3681.6 N at 0.5 MPa (5154.2 N at 0.7 MPa) on every stroke - no push/pull imbalance to design around. The 400 mm stroke is longer than the 300 mm standard limit for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. Note: this model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACED100X400 (swap the P for an E), same bore, stroke and force class.
The hard-anodized aluminium body keeps the mounting length roughly 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which matters on a 400 mm stroke where a full-length body would never fit the machine envelope. The through-rod resists rotation and side load and gives a symmetric mount, and the back-end rod can carry a sensor flag. Fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, speed spans 30-500 mm/s, and pressure runs 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof. At 0.5 MPa the rod-side thrust equates to about 375 kg of pull, so halving for a 2:1 margin lets it lift about 188 kg vertically - match that against your real part weight before ordering.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACED100X400B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Force (both ways) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 3682 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 5154 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 751 kgf |
Double-rod: a rod exits both covers, so output force is equal in both directions (rod-side area used).
| ACPD | DIN compact cylinder (double-rod, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 100 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×400 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 400 mm through-rod stroke shunts pallets between two stops on a packaging line, and the equal 3681.6 N thrust in both directions means the return stroke pushes just as hard as the advance.
With about 188 kg of vertical lift capacity at a 2:1 margin, the 100 mm bore raises a heavy steel die set in a press shop, the rear rod carrying a flag for end-of-stroke sensing.
A conveyor diverter gate needs identical force left and right; the double-rod design delivers 5154.2 N at 0.7 MPa either way, with fixed TPU bumpers decelerating the gate at each end.
Size up or down from here: the 80 mm bore gives 2356.2 N at 0.5 MPa, while stepping to the top of the range is not possible - 100 mm is the largest ACPD bore. If your job needs position holding when air is lost, this plain double-rod piston will drift; add a rod lock or pilot check valve instead of relying on the cylinder. Mounting brackets (FA/FB flange, LB foot, CA/CB clevis, CR, SDB pivot, FTC) and I/Y rod knuckles bolt to the ISO 21287-style face. This unit has no magnet - the optional -S code adds one so CMSE / DMSE switches can be fitted. Since ACPD is discontinued, order the ACED100X400 and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
Replacement checklist
Yes - because a rod exits both covers, both strokes use the rod-side area. At 0.5 MPa you get 3681.6 N, at 0.7 MPa you get 5154.2 N, and the maximum at 1.0 MPa is 750.8 kgf, identical push and pull. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, air filtered to 40 um.
The standard stroke limit for the 100 mm bore is 300 mm, so 400 mm is a made-to-order, non-standard stroke - plan the lead time accordingly. More importantly, the ACPD family is discontinued. The current-production replacement is the ACED100X400, an ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class; confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP follows the older DIN-standard footprint.
