This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACED40X250 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACED40X250 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPD Double Rod Compact Cylinder ACPD40X250 is a double acting, double rod DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 250mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACED40X250 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting compact cylinder with a rod exiting both covers, the ACPD40X250 delivers an identical 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa (800.5 N at 0.7 MPa) on every stroke, since both sides work on the rod-side area. The 250 mm stroke is beyond the 200 mm standard limit for the 40 mm bore, so this unit is made to order. Its hard-anodized aluminium body keeps the mounting length roughly 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight gantries and guarded stations.
The through-rod resists rotation and side load and gives a symmetric mount, and the rear rod can carry a sensor flag in pick-and-place rigs. A fixed TPU bumper sits at each end to soften the stroke. Plan on about 343 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 29 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note: this model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACED40X250, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACED40X250 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Force (both ways) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 572 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 800 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 117 kgf |
Double-rod: a rod exits both covers, so output force is equal in both directions (rod-side area used).
| ACPD | DIN compact cylinder (double-rod, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 40 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×250 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The rear rod pushes finished 40 mm-bore workpieces out of a fixture while the front rod returns a stop pin, both strokes delivering 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa.
A 250 mm made-to-order stroke lets packaging lines reposition guide rails across wide product changes, with the through-rod keeping the rail bracket square.
With the optional -S magnet ordered, CMSE or DMSE switches read position off the back-end rod, so a machine builder gets end-of-stroke signals without extra brackets.
At 40 mm bore you get 571.8 N both ways at 0.5 MPa; step down to the 32 mm bore (345.6 N) for lighter clamps or up to the 50 mm bore (881.2 N) for heavier tooling. The 250 mm stroke is a made-to-order length, since the standard maximum for this bore is 200 mm. Female M8x1.25 rod thread and 1/8" PT ports come as coded. FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the ISO 21287 face. This model is discontinued - the ACED40X250 is the current drop-in, so verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering. A plain double-rod cylinder will drift when air is lost, so add a rod lock or pilot check if the load must stay put.
Replacement checklist
Because a rod exits both covers, force is equal in both directions: 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 800.5 N at 0.7 MPa, with a maximum of 116.6 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Both strokes use the rod-side area, so push and pull are identical. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) and speed is 30-500 mm/s.
It is a non-standard, made-to-order stroke, so lead time and price differ from catalog lengths. Also note this ACPD model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is the ACED40X250 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP follows the older DIN-standard footprint.
