This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACED40X250B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACED40X250B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPD Double Rod Compact Cylinder ACPD40X250B is a double acting, double rod DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 250mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACED40X250B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting with a rod leaving both covers, the ACPD40X250B delivers the same 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa (800.5 N at 0.7 MPa) on every stroke, because both faces work on the rod-side area. The through-rod resists rotation and side load, gives a symmetric mount, and the rear rod can carry a sensor flag. A fixed TPU bumper sits at each end, and travel speed spans 30-500 mm/s. Note: the 250 mm stroke exceeds the 200 mm standard maximum for bore 40, so this unit is made to order.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight gantries and guarding. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, running on 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) of clean air. Plan on about 343 N of usable work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 17 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. This model is discontinued; the current drop-in is ACED40X250.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACED40X250B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Force (both ways) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 572 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 800 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 117 kgf |
Double-rod: a rod exits both covers, so output force is equal in both directions (rod-side area used).
| ACPD | DIN compact cylinder (double-rod, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 40 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×250 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The through-rod drives a workpiece carrier forward and back between two assembly stations, with equal 571.8 N force in each direction at 0.5 MPa.
The rear rod carries a switch flag so a vision camera on a packaging gantry can confirm mid-stroke position, using the optional -S magnet with CMSE or DMSE switches.
Both rods press simultaneously on a machined housing in a CNC fixture, doubling the effective grip from a single 40 mm bore at 0.7 MPa.
At 571.8 N per side, bore 40 sits between bore 32 (345.6 N) and bore 50 (881.2 N) at 0.5 MPa, so step up to 50 if the load exceeds about 343 N of real work. The plain double-rod piston drifts when air is lost, so add a rod lock or pilot check for held loads. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the ISO 21287 face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches. This model is discontinued - order ACED40X250 and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
Because a rod exits both covers, force is identical both ways: 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 800.5 N at 0.7 MPa, with a maximum of 116.6 kgf at 1.0 MPa. There is no larger push than pull on this double-rod cylinder.
No, but it is a made-to-order stroke, so lead time applies. Also note this model is discontinued: the current-production ACED40X250 matches the same bore, stroke and force class, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
