This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACED40X40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACED40X40 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPD Double Rod Compact Cylinder ACPD40X40 is a double acting, double rod DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 40mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACED40X40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting, double-rod compact cylinder built to the DIN-standard ACP format: a 40 mm bore with a 12 mm rod exiting BOTH covers, so thrust is identical on the extend and return stroke - 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 800.5 N at 0.7 MPa in either direction. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which makes the 40 mm stroke easy to fit inside tight jigs, guards and gantry frames.
Because a rod passes through both ends, the through-rod resists rotation and side load and gives a symmetric mount, and the rear rod can carry a sensor flag in packaging or assembly machinery. At 0.5 MPa plan on about 343 N of real work (roughly 60% of the rating), which is a vertical lift of about 29 kg - halve that to about 14 kg for a 2:1 margin when sizing a gripped part. Note this model is DISCONTINUED: the current-production drop-in is the ACED40X40 (same bore, stroke and force class), so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACED40X40 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 572 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 800 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 117 kgf |
Double-rod: a rod exits both covers, so output force is equal in both directions (rod-side area used).
| ACPD | DIN compact cylinder (double-rod, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 40 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×40 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 571.8 N both-ways output at 0.5 MPa suits light staking and marking of aluminium brackets, and the 40 mm stroke fits a compact press head.
A rod on each cover lets a PCB or connector tray be pushed and pulled with equal 571.8 N force, with the rear rod doubling as a sensor flag mount.
The through-rod resists rotation and side load on a small linear slide, cycling at 30-500 mm/s in electronics assembly stations.
Size the bore by load: a 32 mm bore of this family gives 345.6 N at 0.5 MPa, while the next step up, the 50 mm bore, delivers 881.2 N - pick the 40 mm when your clamp or press force sits between those two. Keep in mind the piston drifts when air is lost, so add a rod lock or pilot check valve if the load must stay held. Mounting bolts straight onto the ISO 21287 face (FA/FB flange, LB foot, CA/CB clevis and more), and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches - this unit has no S code, so no magnet is fitted. Order the ACED40X40 as the current replacement.
Replacement checklist
It is a double-rod cylinder, so force is EQUAL both ways (both strokes use the rod-side area): 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa, 800.5 N at 0.7 MPa, and up to 116.6 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, air filtered to 40 um.
Order the ACED40X40, the ISO 21287 successor made by swapping the P for an E. It matches the same 40 mm bore, 40 mm stroke and force class with the same short-body format, but confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN standard. Also note the magnet is only present when the -S code is ordered.
