This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACED40X50SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACED40X50SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPD Double Rod Compact Cylinder ACPD40X50SB is a double acting, double rod DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 50mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACED40X50SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting, double-rod compact cylinder in the discontinued AirTAC ACPD range: a 40 mm bore with a 50 mm stroke, a 12 mm rod exiting both covers, and a male rod thread on the B code. Because both strokes work on the rod-side area, it delivers 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 800.5 N at 0.7 MPa in either direction - push and pull are identical. The through-rod resists rotation and side load, gives a symmetric mounting face, and the rear rod can carry a sensor flag. This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be fitted for end-position sensing.
The hard-anodized aluminium body follows the ISO 21287 short format, cutting roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs, guards and gantries. A fixed TPU bumper sits at each end and the rod is S45C hard-chrome. For sizing, treat about 343 N (roughly 35 kg of push) as the usable working force at 0.5 MPa, and expect it to lift about 29 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note that ACPD is no longer produced - the current-production drop-in is ACED40X50, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACED40X50SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Force (both ways) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 572 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 800 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 117 kgf |
Double-rod: a rod exits both covers, so output force is equal in both directions (rod-side area used).
| ACPD | DIN compact cylinder (double-rod, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 40 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×50 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 571.8 N equal push and pull at 0.5 MPa lets one cylinder both close and retract a clamp arm on an automotive weld jig without a return spring or unequal force.
On a food packaging line, the through-rod drives a product pusher at 30-500 mm/s, with the rear rod carrying a CMSE switch flag for stroke confirmation.
A 50 mm stroke with identical force in both directions indexes an electronics slide table, and the 29 kg vertical-lift margin covers the carrier plus board weight.
At 571.8 N per direction at 0.5 MPa, this 40 mm double-rod unit suits clamping and reciprocating jobs needing equal force both ways. Step down to ACPD32X50 (345.6 N) for lighter fixtures or up to ACPD50X50 (881.2 N) for heavier presses. The piston does not hold position when air is lost - add a rod lock or pilot check for a held load. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the ISO 21287 face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Since ACPD is discontinued, order ACED40X50 as the current replacement and verify the mounting footprint first.
Replacement checklist
As a double-rod cylinder, output is equal both ways: 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 800.5 N at 0.7 MPa on every stroke, because both sides use the rod-side area. At 1.0 MPa the peak is 116.6 kgf. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the bore-40 port is 1/8" PT.
Order ACED40X50, the ISO 21287 successor made by swapping the P for an E. It matches the same 40 mm bore, 50 mm stroke and force class, with a matching short body and mounting family. The ACP is DIN-standard, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before the swap. This unit already carries the -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches, and the fixed TPU bumpers at both ends carry over in the replacement series.
