This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACED40X55S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACED40X55S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPD Double Rod Compact Cylinder ACPD40X55S is a double acting, double rod DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 55mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACED40X55S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting, double-rod compact cylinder built to the DIN-standard ACP pattern, the ACPD40X55S pushes a 40 mm bore through a 55 mm stroke and delivers 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa in BOTH directions, because a rod exits each cover and both strokes work on the rod-side area. At 0.7 MPa that rises to 800.5 N either way. The through-rod resists rotation and side load, gives a symmetric mounting face, and the rear rod can carry a sensor flag, while fixed TPU bumpers pad both ends of travel.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight pick-and-place gantries and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. In practice, plan on roughly 343 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which is about 29 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, runs on 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) at 30-500 mm/s, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Note: this model is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACED40X55, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACED40X55S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Force (both ways) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 572 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 800 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 117 kgf |
Double-rod: a rod exits both covers, so output force is equal in both directions (rod-side area used).
| ACPD | DIN compact cylinder (double-rod, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 40 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×55 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The through-rod lets the 40 mm bore clamp a machined housing from either side with an equal 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa, so one cylinder handles both clamp and release stations on a jig plate.
A 55 mm stroke and 30-500 mm/s speed suit diverting 25 kg cartons off a 400 mm belt, with the rear rod carrying a DMSE switch flag for position feedback.
The double rod resists the side load of a rising pallet platform, and the short body fits under the lift frame where an ISO 15552 profile cylinder would be too long.
Size the job both ways: if 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa is more than you need, the ACPD32X55 gives 345.6 N in the same compact envelope; if you need more, the ACPD50X55 reaches 881.2 N both ways. Remember a plain double-rod cylinder drifts when air is lost - for a held load add a rod lock or pilot check valve. This unit already carries the optional -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches, and FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face. Since the ACPD is discontinued, order the ACED40X55 as the current-production replacement and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
Because it is a double-rod cylinder, output is identical on both strokes: 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 800.5 N at 0.7 MPa, equal push and pull, based on the rod-side area of the 40 mm bore. At the full 1.0 MPa rating the cylinder reaches about 116.6 kgf. It runs on 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) air filtered to 40 um, proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end.
AirTAC no longer produces the ACPD family. The current drop-in is the ACED40X55, the ISO 21287 successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same 40 mm bore, 55 mm stroke and force class, with the fitted -S magnet still available. The ACP is DIN-standard, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions and the M8x1.25 female rod thread against your fixture before swapping, and check the 1/8" PT port on your manifold.
