This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACED40X5SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACED40X5SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPD Double Rod Compact Cylinder ACPD40X5SB is a double acting, double rod DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 5mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACED40X5SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting, double-rod compact cylinder with a 40 mm bore and a very short 5 mm stroke. A rod exits both covers, so the output force is identical in each direction: 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 800.5 N at 0.7 MPa, using the rod-side area on both strokes. The male rod thread (B code) and the fitted -S magnet, which accepts CMSE / DMSE switches, are built into this order code. The ACPD family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACED40X5.
The short ISO 21287 body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which suits tight clamping plates and indexing fixtures. With 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa, plan on roughly 343 N (about 35 kg) of real work, or lift about 29 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries a fixed TPU bumper at both ends, the S45C rod is hard-chrome plated, and speed runs 30-500 mm/s at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACED40X5SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Force (both ways) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 572 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 800 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 117 kgf |
Double-rod: a rod exits both covers, so output force is equal in both directions (rod-side area used).
| ACPD | DIN compact cylinder (double-rod, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 40 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×5 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 5 mm stroke and 571.8 N both ways suit ejecting a finished bushing from a small press die on a brass-fitting assembly line.
With the -S magnet fitted, a CMSE switch on the front rod and a DMSE on the rear rod confirm clamp and release on a CNC fixture plate.
A short, symmetric through-rod push of about 35 kg of usable force rejects an underfilled carton sideways off a food packaging conveyor.
At 5 mm stroke this model is a short-throw pusher or ejector, not a transport cylinder. If 571.8 N both ways is more than the job needs, the bore 25 ACPD gives 206.2 N at 0.5 MPa; if you need more, the bore 50 size reaches 881.2 N. Note that a plain double-rod cylinder drifts when air is lost, so add a rod lock or pilot check for a held load. FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the ISO 21287 face. Since the ACPD is discontinued, order the ACED40X5 and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
Replacement checklist
Yes. Because a rod exits both covers, both strokes use the rod-side area, so output is equal each way: 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 800.5 N at 0.7 MPa, with a maximum of 116.6 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the port is 1/8" (PT).
The ACPD family is no longer in production. The current drop-in is the ACED40X5, the ISO 21287 successor with the same 40 mm bore, 5 mm stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN-standard footprint.
