This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACED40X90S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACED40X90S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPD Double Rod Compact Cylinder ACPD40X90S is a double acting, double rod DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 90mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACED40X90S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting, double-rod compact cylinder built to the DIN-standard ACP pattern, the ACPD40X90S pushes a 40 mm piston through a 90 mm stroke with a rod leaving both covers. Because each side works on the rod-side area, output is identical in either direction: 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 800.5 N at 0.7 MPa. The through-rod resists rotation and side load, gives a symmetric mount, and leaves a rear rod stub free for a sensor flag. The -S code means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke signalling.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs, guarding and gantry frames. At 0.5 MPa plan on about 343 N of real work, which lifts roughly 29 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. A fixed TPU bumper sits at each end, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, and the female M8x1.25 rod thread with 1/8" PT ports keeps plumbing simple. Note: this model is discontinued. The current-production drop-in is the ACED40X90 - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACED40X90S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Force (both ways) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 572 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 800 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 117 kgf |
Double-rod: a rod exits both covers, so output force is equal in both directions (rod-side area used).
| ACPD | DIN compact cylinder (double-rod, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 40 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×90 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The through-rod drives a pick-and-place arm symmetrically between two stops on a small-parts assembly line, with 571.8 N available in both travel directions at 0.5 MPa.
With the fitted -S magnet and CMSE switches on both rod ends, a packaging machine reports extend and retract positions along the 90 mm stroke without external flags.
A machining cell uses the rear rod stub to eject finished bushings while the front rod clamps the fixture, both strokes delivering 800.5 N at 0.7 MPa.
For a 90 mm stroke with equal force both ways, the 40 mm bore delivers 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa in each direction. If your load needs less, the 32 mm bore gives 345.6 N at 0.5 MPa; if you need more reach, step up to the 50 mm bore at 881.2 N. Remember that a plain double-rod cylinder drifts when air is lost - add a rod lock or pilot check if the load must stay put. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face, and this unit already carries the optional -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. Since the ACPD is discontinued, order the ACED40X90 as the current replacement and verify the ISO 21287 footprint first.
Replacement checklist
It is a double-rod cylinder, so force is equal both ways: 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 800.5 N at 0.7 MPa, with a maximum of 116.6 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the 90 mm stroke sits well inside the 200 mm maximum standard stroke for the 40 mm bore.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end and FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting. The ACPD family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACED40X90, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before you swap.
