This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACED80X55SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACED80X55SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPD Double Rod Compact Cylinder ACPD80X55SB is a double acting, double rod DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø80mm bore and 55mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACED80X55SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting compact cylinder with a rod leaving both covers, the ACPD80X55SB pushes and pulls with identical force because each stroke works on the rod-side area: 2356.2 N at 0.5 MPa and 3298.7 N at 0.7 MPa in either direction. The 20 mm through-rod resists rotation and side load, gives a symmetric mount, and the rear rod can carry a sensor flag. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, and speed runs 30-500 mm/s.
The hard-anodized aluminium body follows the short ISO 21287 format, cutting roughly 50% of the mounting length compared with an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight press fixtures and gantries. As an -S coded model it carries the optional magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke signalling. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is ACED80X55, and you should confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. For sizing, plan on about 1414 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 72 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACED80X55SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Force (both ways) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 2356 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 3299 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 481 kgf |
Double-rod: a rod exits both covers, so output force is equal in both directions (rod-side area used).
| ACPD | DIN compact cylinder (double-rod, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 80 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×55 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The rear rod on the 80 mm bore can drive a counterbalance or carry a flag, so a benchtop stamping head gets 2356.2 N of clamping and a matched return force from one cylinder.
A 55 mm stroke with equal 2356.2 N force both ways suits push-off and eject stations on extrusion lines, where the through-rod keeps the tool plate from twisting under side load.
Warehouse gate and guard interlocks use the symmetric double-rod mount on a tight gantry, with the short body fitting where a full-length profile cylinder cannot.
At 80 mm bore this is the second-strongest ACPD size: 2356.2 N both ways at 0.5 MPa. Step down to the 63 mm bore (1458.1 N) for lighter clamping, or up to the 100 mm bore (3681.6 N) when the part resists harder. The male rod thread (B code) suits rod knuckles and threaded fixtures, while FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the ISO 21287 face. Remember the piston drifts if air is lost - add a rod lock or pilot check where a load must stay put. Order ACED80X55 as the current replacement and verify mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
Because a rod exits both covers, force is equal in both directions: 2356.2 N at 0.5 MPa and 3298.7 N at 0.7 MPa on every stroke (rod-side area). At 1.0 MPa the ceiling is 480.5 kgf. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end.
The hard-anodized aluminium body follows the short ISO 21287 format, saving about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. This -S coded model carries the optional magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches mount directly for end-of-stroke detection. The model is discontinued; ACED80X55 is the current drop-in - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
